☁️ NEW ZEALAND – LAND OF THE LONG WHITE CLOUD 🇳🇿

Now I understand why New Zealand is called Aotearoa – Land of the Long White Cloud.

Beautiful clouds stretching across snow-covered mountains, rolling hills and peaceful country roads.

I wasn't chasing the perfect shot. I was simply lucky enough to be there when nature put on a show. 😄

FAIRLIE — A LOVELY PLACE TO CALL HOME ❤️

Fairlie may look like a small town you simply pass through on the way to somewhere else… but for those of us who live here, it has a lot more to offer.

We might not have everything you’d find in a big town, but we have pretty much everything we need — a supermarket, cafés, bakery, school, medical centre, pharmacy, petrol stations, shops, sports facilities and a friendly local community.

And then there’s something you simply can’t buy…

The surroundings. 🌿🏔️

Mountains in almost every direction, beautiful countryside, nearby lakes, incredible night skies and four very different seasons — all right on our doorstep.

There are days when living here honestly feels a little like being on holiday… without actually going anywhere.

Fairlie may be small, but perhaps that’s part of what makes it such a lovely place to call home.😊

For anyone planning to visit New Zealand next year, I’ve put together some photos of Fairlie’s main street taken at different times of the year, just in case they might help you with your travel planning.

I have quite a few photos, although I don’t have one from every month.

And just a little note — the scenery won’t look exactly like these photos 100% of the time. It also depends on the weather conditions at the time. 😄👌

When Fairlie Weather Changes Its Mind !

Looking back at these photos reminded me of the surprise snow we had two days ago!

Fairlie weather can change very quickly. Back in June 2019, the forecast was around 10–14°C, with a chance of snow. I remember wondering,

“Will it really snow?”

Well… it did! The temperature suddenly dropped to around 2°C, just as a group of beautiful vintage cars arrived in Fairlie.

Snow, old cars and Fairlie’s historic buildings made the whole town look like we had stepped back in time. 🕛

And then, just one day later — blue sky, sunshine and around 15°C! Most of the snow had already melted.

That’s Fairlie for you… 14°C → 2°C → 15°C in just a few days! ☀️❄️☀️

A good reminder when travelling around the South Island: bring layers, a warm jacket… and sunscreen! 😄👌

Such a lovely surprise for Fairlie today! ❄️

The spring snow began this morning and continued until about 1.30pm. Now the clouds are clearing, and I can see the beautiful blue sky appearing again.

Spring in Fairlie really can give us four seasons in one day! Here are a few photos from our snowy Sunday. 📷❤️

📍Exploring Lake Tekapo through Pla’s lens #5 — Coffee With a View ☕🏔️

Lake Tekapo certainly knows how to do coffee with a view!

For #5, I thought I’d share two very different places to sit back, grab something to eat or drink, and enjoy the beautiful Mackenzie scenery.

☕ Astro Café – Ōtehīwai Mt John
High above Lake Tekapo, Astro Café gives you an amazing view over the lake, township and surrounding mountains. On a clear day, you can see for miles!

🍴 Dark Sky Diner – Lake Tekapo
Back down beside the lake, Dark Sky Diner gives you a completely different view — turquoise water and mountains right outside the window. I recently stopped here for lunch, and I think the view might have been just as enjoyable as the food!

Both are part of Dark Sky Project ✨🔭 — connecting good food, incredible scenery and one of the things Lake Tekapo is most famous for... its amazing night sky.

These photos were taken by me over different visits and different years, so you might notice a few changes along the way.

Exploring Lake Tekapo through Pla’s lens #4 – Lake Tekapo Footbridge

One bridge, so many different views. 📸

The Lake Tekapo Footbridge is one of my favourite places to photograph around the lake.

Depending on the season and time of day, you can see turquoise water, snow-covered mountains, colourful lupins, beautiful reflections and sometimes a gorgeous sunset.

These are some of my photos taken over the years, showing just how different this beautiful little corner of Lake Tekapo can look.❤️
