Last Saturday's workshop was a great success. After the fog lifted, it was a gorgeous day and everyone's cameras worked fabulously.
I love how the imprecise nature of pinhole can celebrate the expressive abstract as well as moody realism and everything in between.
At the end of the day we made a 20sec group shot in front of Highwic with an isosceles pinhole camera.
Thanks so much to the Highwic team for hosting and to be part of again.

Here's a selection from some of the participant's images.

Just over 3 weeks to go until the next pinhole workshop! This will be a special one. 😊 I'll be holding it at Highwic House in Newmarket.
We make our own pinhole cameras and make exposures with photo paper, developing the results in the historic bathroom repurposed into a darkroom. It's happening Saturday June 13 from 10am - 3pm. $120 pp . There are still spaces available. Bookings thru Highwic website (what's on). or msg me for more details.
As part of the Auckland Festival of Photography there will also be a display of my pinhole cameras and the images made from them at Highwic running from May 29 till June 13.

I'm excited to share elements of my practice on pinhole and alt processes in this interview freshly out in lomography magazine. Woohoo!

Artist Jenny Tomlin reflects on nearly 40 years of practice dedicated to testing things that shouldn’t work, but do. Embark on a journey revealing that only imagination stands in the way of transforming everyday objects into cameras.

Faye Norman and Jenny Tomlin’s works explore overlooked and untracked routes – natural spaces and found objects that exist alongside suburbia. Tomlin intuitively uses pinhole to interpret the space as felt rather than seen, producing images that are interpretive rather than strictly realist. The variability and serendipity of pinhole encourage moving offtrack and exploring the deeper bush over extended periods of time. Norman gathers materials through chance encounters, and these are brought into the Cell Block Studio. Scanning and subtle visual manipulations transform these objects into dislocated traces. Though altered, the images retain connections to their original contexts, creating a delicate tension between origin and presentation. In the exhibition, external locations and materials converge, where traces of past use and environmental conditions remain visible, producing a quiet sense of the uncanny.

Moving along a creek up an untracked bush gully with my phone looking for pinhole possibilities, the birds were all around, chatting to me. As always, missing the moment with this tui but just getting a glimpse of it's wing as it disappeared.

Some vertical panoramas from the eclipsemint pinhole camera off track in Titirangi. I so love the infinite depth of field. Everything semi sharp.
I'm not sure about which waterfall version works best. When I made them I was sure the 2nd one would be the one but now thinking the 1st one with it off to the edge is better. Any votes either way?

1. Phyto Kauri.
2. Rata
3. Waterfall 1
4. Waterfall 2

So pleased to get my colour panorama pinhole film back from today. Definitely works better than expected. Still get the random light leaks that I love about homemade cameras but so good to get multiple shots. 24exposure gives 8 -9 exposures. Almost like 'real' photography. 😉
