Kyoto in autumn is everything you imagine it to be. The golden leaves, the boats at Arashiyama, the ancient wooden streets. But Manal & Mekey had something else in mind.

They flew all the way from the US for a piece of installation art, tucked deep in the forests. The kind of place only people who truly love art and architecture would think to look for.

As the sun began to lower, visitors still wandered around, so we waited — quietly, patiently — as the twilight crept in and the crowd slowly thinned.

And then it was just us.

The sound of the forest. The last warm light catching the spiral. Two people exchanging their vows in the most peaceful way imaginable.

This is why I love what I do.

A wedding day in Kyoto looks something like this. A slow, unhurried morning getting ready, a stroll along the Kamogawa river, a ceremony tucked away in a beautiful Higashiyama garden — and a night that ended with sake and dancing. No rush, no chaos. Just a really beautiful day.

The morning at Four Seasons Kyoto has a way of holding you — golden, unhurried, as if time agrees to slow down just for a little while. And that particular morning on her wedding day, Kim was luminous and alive, wrapped in a stillness that felt entirely her own. A woman on the edge of a new chapter, taking her last few hours of calm before stepping into it.

In an era where wedding imagery is increasingly shaped by fashion and drama, does minimalism still hold its place?

Regardless, winter in Hokkaido reminds me why I fell in love with photography in the first place. The beauty of stillness, the emotion in clean lines, the art of keeping only what is necessary. It’s still deeply satisfying to me! (Particularly the sixth pic)
