"...Thus you'll know the stories of men, who carved the earth in honor of that terrible god, to whom they dedicated the name of the highest mountain."

For some time now, I've been dedicating myself to the imagery of prehistoric peoples and the places connected to it.

It all began on Monte Beigua, in front of the network of rock engravings that guided the development of my project on the park.
The name Beigua seems to derive from the pre-Roman deity Baigorix, whose cult was present throughout the alpine area.

There's another mountain whose name seems linked to the same etymology: Mont Bégo in France. Following this thread, I dedicated the summer to visiting this wonderful area, which is home to one of the sites with the most rock engravings in Europe.

On these rocks our ancestors expressed and passed down their life, their cults, their culture: aspects that remain a mystery to this day for those who study them. And it's precisely this mystery that offers us the opportunity to enter a mysterious dimension, with imagination as our only tool of inquiry.

My interview with Our Narratives is now online.

We talked about the photographic research that has shaped my work over the past few years, how my practice and way of thinking have evolved, and the questions that continue to inform my work.

The conversation also touches on the ways we experience, observe, and sometimes consume the places we visit, reflecting on how our desire for experience can shape our perception of the landscape.

If you'd like to read it, you'll find the link in my bio.

Many thanks to .now for the opportunity and for the thoughtful conversation.

How can a place shape the way we perceive the world?

In Beigua Natural Park, suspended between the sea and the Alps, sensations and perceptions merge with a quality of the territory that surfaces in the atmospheres and in the geology, reaching into the memory of populations who considered these places sacred since the Neolithic.

Among delicate mists and soft lights, ophiolites and beech trees watch us, offering the possibility of understanding how landscape influences us at a level that is not entirely rational.

an echo
a presence
the valley.
Bare
I turn toward that clearing.
There are no shelters
in the Ligurian woods."

"I have heard what the talkers were talking, the talk of the beginning and the end,
But i do not talk of the beginning or the end.

There was never any more inception than there is now,
Nor any more youth or age than there is now,
And will never be any more perfection than there is now,
Nor any more heaven or hell than there is now.

Urge, and urge, and urge,
Always the procreant urge of the world."

I am Janus. The god of thresholds.
Of beginnings.
Of endings.
Of choices."

Io sono il tuo peggior nemico.
Io sono Giano. Il dio delle soglie.
Degli inizi.
Delle fini.
Delle scelte.”
