Elizabeth Toher Photographer Hi Im Elizabeth ...Im a photographer with a passion for life and for capturing memories to be cheris Hi I’m very pleased to meet you. Elizabeth xx
(567)

I’m Elizabeth…I was born with the need to preserve memories…and have been doing so for as long as I can remember, I still have ticket stubs from early discos (the ones that had slow sets!!), pressed roses that are now over 20 years old, along with countless journals, programmes and basically anything that will transport me back to “that”happy time. I have always adored photography, but my soul wa

s set on fire with the arrival of my first son, nothing captures a moment like a photograph…..I’ve been very blessed with three beautiful children, who have taught me to stand back and see the world anew…I’m so very thankful to them for that gift. I believe in preserving memories…in capturing emotion, love, joy, new beginnings, old familiarity…….Thank you for taking the time to stop by, I hope you enjoy your visit with me.

There is so much magic in Cong, at every twist … every turn ….to be given the chance to get to share a little of this knowledge with the world is humbling, exciting and inspires and invigorates my soul. As a young girl I was told many of these stories by my beautiful Aunt Lil… snuggled in bed with her on Friday evening …she would enchant me with stories… what I thought were fairytales..and only in my later years did I realise she was painting Cong to me…for me.

The picture I am sharing here is one of my personal favourites…. It’s a story of the importance of Traditions, the passing of customs or beliefs from one generation to the next. The Tradition of the Crusheens - the placing of little wooden crosses by the side of the road by members of the funeral procession as the deceased makes one final journey into Cong and thereafter onto their final resting place.

Legend has it that the tradition began on the day of the suppression of Cong Abbey. As the monks were leaving in procession, being lead by the Abbot, they met a funeral. The Abbot stopped all and asked them to bow their head in prayer. When finished, the Abbot cut a branch from a tree and formed a cross with it. He then placed the cross on the side of the road with the words “May this same thing be done until the end of time”

And that is the beauty of Cong, for this age old tradition is still revered and upheld….There is so much to Cong I'm so excited to share with you all in my book.
