Belvedere House & Gardens, Mullingar, April 2026.

A lovely peaceful day, surrounded by the beauty of spring in full bloom. The walled gardens were looking their best, with vibrant colours, carefully shaped hedges, and winding paths, that invited quiet exploration. A real gem in the heart of Westmeath.

Part 1

Myself and my sis Amy, visited Belvedere House & Gardens, in Mullingar, Westmeath, back at the end of April. I have been a few times already, but it's always a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. From woodland walks, to stunning walled gardens, and so much more. There's something for the whole family.

Munterconnaught, Virginia Cavan

The golden light of sunset, spilled across the nearby Bruise hill. Turning the fields to shades of amber and green. Bluebells lined the quiet country road, glowing against the fading evening sky

The road ahead is rarely smooth, but every bump teaches us something we need for the journey. Life twists, rises, and dips when we least expect it, yet those uneven paths often lead to the most beautiful destinations.

A house I walk by, all the time. Each time I pass, its slowly falling into more disrepair. The roof had decided it had enough, and caved in only last week. The window frames, hanging on for dear life. One gust of wind, and I'd say they'll be next to crumble.

Castlegar Castle, Galway

Built by Richard De Burgo, a powerful lord who ruled over much of Connacht, but he also faced fierce resistance from the native Irish clans. According to legend, De Burgo built Castlegar Castle after his son was beheaded by the O’Flaherty’s over a tax dispute.

Menlo Castle (also known as Blake’s Castle) in Galway City.

Situated on the banks of the River Corrib, just outside Galway City. Originally built in 1569, it was the ancestral home of the Blake family (one of the "Fourteen Tribes of Galway") for over 300 years.

It wasn't the easiest place to find, down an old dirt track, near some residential housing. Had to park up nearby and walk a few minutes. I didn't get too close, as it was seriously muddy, from heavy machinery that were working nearby...
