After starting at the lighthouse yesterday afternoon, the forecast was constantly changing, so I took the punt to move further West in the chase of light, and thankfully, it paid off 😍

The golden cliffs of West Bay looked incredible in the late-afternoon light , and with the dark grey rain clouds above, rainbows were always on the radar but sadly never materialised (this time) but never say never 🤞🏻

What a cracking welcome to September and the beginning of Autumn this morning at Old Harry Rocks 😍

I felt a lot of pressure with this one... all will be explained soon, but there was about eight of us who headed out at 04:00 with nothing but cloud and rain on the forecast, thankfully a little break on the horizon provided some beautiful colours and we ended up hitting the jackpot 😮‍💨

A really enjoyable return to the coast, it's been far too long since I've got the filters out for a long exposure, so the cobwebs are well and truly dusted off now...

What better way to spend a Bank Holiday Monday than running wild? 🦊🌿

There’s something about young foxes that seems to perfectly capture that last little bit of summer, endlessly curious, full of character and seemingly incapable of sitting still for more than a few seconds (sounds like me when I'm sat at my desk) 😂

I photographed this little fox cub mid-bound, charging through the grass with all four paws seemingly heading in different directions... I love moments like this where everything comes together for a split second, the raised paw, that brilliant expression and the soft greens and late-summer tones wrapping around it.

Hope all my are having a lovely Bank Holiday Monday! Whatever you’re doing today, I hope you’re attacking it with at least half the enthusiasm of this little one… although preferably with slightly better control of your limbs 😂

FINALLY we get some cloud and well overdue rain, which means one thing... dramatic light, rainbows and/or storm clouds 😮‍💨

Personally, I always get excited when I check the weather forecast and see a sudden change of conditions, whether that's pressure, clouds, wind, precipitation, it means something exciting could happen 🤞🏻

That's why after a pretty disappointing forecast for fog at sunrise didn't materialise, we headed back out in the afternoon and sunset, and wow was it worth it 😍

After setting up this composition about an hour before, I kept glancing at the gap in the sky behind the trees and thought "how epic would it be if the sun pokes through for a few seconds" 👀

Thankfully it did, and we got the last 5 minutes of golden sunset light hitting Horton Tower to give us a little thank you for our efforts in chasing the weather that day 😃

Woah, artistic license in progress… or am I just 6 months too late on the pixel stretch trend? Either way, it was fun to experiment with this as we chased the lunar eclipse across North Dorset in the early hours of this morning 😍

This is just one picture taken at 04:47 when we had the most optimum amount of visibility away from any cloud cover and fog (yes, we finally got that forecasted fog, at the wrong time) and then a little pixel stretch in photoshop to jump on the band wagon a little too late 😂

I’ve also done a few giant HDR brackets, but will need to find a moment when I have 3-4 hours to process those properly, as the last time I tried a moon HDR it wasn’t the easiest of things to do… wish me luck!

In the meantime, it’s time for some sleep before heading out for sunset and moonrise (hopefully) this evening 🤞🏻

After my little moan about the weather forecast being completely wrong for yesterday morning, I promised my client that we would meet up again for sunset and trust it one more time... safe to say, that was a VERY good call as it was absolutely BONKERS 😍

We arrived to Horton Tower in flat light, blue sky turning to grey, yet I trusted the apps when they suggested storm fronts rolling in from the South - perfect, whenever we get dramatic or changing weather, it's the best time to be out with the camera, as something is almost guaranteed to happen!

What followed was the last 10 minutes of golden hour light (I'll share that picture tomorrow) which usually is my favourite type of landscape to photograph. Shadows, last light on the tower, what more could you want 👀

Well, it turns out, the sky had a lot more in store for us!!! After about 15 minutes the colour exploded over the tower, we repositioned to face the best display of colour, and stood there jumping up and down in excitement!!!

The 04:00 alarm and lack of sleep was worth it, we finally had an excuse to take the cameras out the bag 😂

This was what I was getting excited about this morning... yesterday I saw the forecast for today and it was looking PERFECT!!!

No wind, humidity matching temp, a little rain the night before, clear skies around sunrise, what more could anyone who headed out this morning have wished for?! 😂

Sadly every single forecast couldn't have been further from the truth and that's just the way landscape photography works... you can plan as much as possible, but on the odd occasion you just have to admit defeat and move on!

So, here's a picture from my new talk "Chasing Light in Wild Places" on a beautiful August morning in North Dorset, the first light of the day casting the most intense pink light on top of the morning cloud inversion 🤞🏻

Patches of heather are doing well in the forest and heathlands this year, but noway near as good as previous years, sadly...

I'll always remember this morning as it was a mad rush out of the car after chasing low-lying mist, dashing to find a composition of some sort as the sky began to burn with colour 😮‍💨

Sometimes things just happen and you have to adapt, something I talked about lots during my latest talk "Chasing Light in Wild Places" up in WEX Norwich, the same talk I'll be doing up in WEX Glasgow in a few weeks time (if you're around) 😃

Catching the sunset over the forest, last light of the day is always a magical thing to witness - not always the most thrilling of pictures, but a calming moment frozen in time 🌅

Hoping to get out and about in the forests this week as a lot of places are showing signs of early-autumn already... and with the rumour of a super cold winter on the way, it could be a very quick autumn indeed!

Time to keep the back packed and ready to go before the typical winds arrive just as we hit peak colour 🍂
