Last evening's walk turned into a raptorish treat; the rain was threatening but held off while I was treated to a female Sparrow Hawk low, fast and only a fleeting glimpse. A Red Kite up high, while just below a Kestrel searches for supper. With the approaching dusk, a Barn Owl quartered the ground

It's been sort of a Woodpecker sort of day,out in the East Riding. The highlight of the day for me is the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, a first for me, and to discover just how tiny they are! Wonderful to see a nearly fledged youngster. The great Spotted Woodpecker are still feeding at least one in the nest, but yesterday some of the brood did fledge . The Tawny Owlet is still in the same place as yesterday too , but Mum is only a short distance away. If you ever see Owlets seemingly alone, please leave them be as Mum and Dad won't be far away. The ever-present Red Kite high overhead, and a social Robin joined me for a coffee. The Barn Owls are out in daylight, a sign they have mouths to feed. Met some truly lovely folks today, fellow birders are always a big tick in my book.

My early morning walks along my local canal paid me an unexpected bonus yesterday morning, a first for me in what I believe is a Water Vole, something i have never seen before. This is not to be confused with the Bank Vole. The water Vole is a critically endangered species. It was therefore a pleasure to meet with Rick this morning at the canal. Rick does lots of good work looking after this place, and he was extremely delighted to learn of this species at the location. No luck this morning, but I will keep persevering to try to observe them again.

A Bright and bassy few hrs at the meditation center today . lots of activity, heard a Nuthatch but not able to photograph on , so that remains on the bucket list . At least two female Kingfisher and what could be this males patch he seemed a bit bemused what to do , but the done thing if you want to impress a female is buy her a gift of a fish . The neon birds suddenly vanished when this male Sparrowhawk alighted in front of me for a brief moment. The drake Mallards were very subdued and appear to be already going into eclipse plumage , a notable absence of females, indicates they may be sitting on eggs .

At last some usable light, late afternoon, a bonus of two Tawny Owls, I'm sure male and female, as one is significantly bigger than the other, and within 50 ft of each other out and about in what is still daylight, perhaps got youngsters to feed, as they do start to breed early. In addition, this was a local East Riding spot where Tawnys are seen. Made up to see two together as mainly territorial and nocturnal.
