Hi , I'm gradually sifting through my images from Southwest Scotland while sat here at my open studio event in the stifling heat. How is it that this was only just over a week ago and a few hundred miles away and I was wearing a down jacket?

How could I possible resist an opportunity to photograph a castle in the mist while I was in Scotland last week?

I'm just back from Southwest Scotland and didn't get around to sharing anything while I was away, so here is a quick edit from a gorgeous misty morning early in the week.

I never imagined witnessing aurora this far south when I first started going to Scandinavia chasing the northern lights well over a decade ago but have had the opportunity to do so quite a few times in the last couple of years.

These snowy and sandy patterns were well worth almost being blown over for. You can see the dog walkers and even the dog leaning into the cold wind! I could spend hours exploring compositions like this.

I'm gradually catching up on going through my images from this winter Here is one from Senja in Norway, a spot I have visited many times over the years. It's a wild bit of coast and it was good to visit with relatively calm conditions. Although it looks pretty rough in the image, it was mainly the low vantage point that exaggerated the drama!

What a night. The aurora just kept on building and dancing around. We were treated to several hours of watching and photographing it with this beach all to ourselves. A real privilege to introduce some really great friends to the joy of the aurora with such an exceptional display.
