You may notice from my photographic style that I produce photographs that are not heavily photoshopped 'photographic art' productions. I may make some minor adjustments to reflect the atmosphere of the setting and I sometimes use my studio lighting system to create particular effects but other than that I try to get the shot right in the camera when I'm actually taking the photograph.

The sun shone yesterday in Houston following Saturday's storm and it was a lovely temperature to sit out and see what birds decided to swing by the garden and surrounding area. We got the following:

Northern Mockingbird (photos 1,3 and 7)
American Black
Vulture (Photo 2)
White Winged Dove (photo 4)
Blue Jay (Photos 5 and 6)
American Robin (Photo 8 and 14)
Red Cardinal (Photos 9, 10 and 11)
Hairy Woodpecker (Photo 13)

Photo 12 is a Giant Swallowtail butterfly that happened to land on a nearby tree as we walked by!

All this in the space of 2 hours!

Had an afternoon at Thorp Perrow Arboretum recently and watched the birds of prey flying demonstration. It was a good opportunity to practise birds in flight photography and it was also really interesting listening to the commentary by the staff member handling the birds. The owl was particularly cooperative!

Yesterday my good friend John kindly drove and transported our bikes up to Kielder for a bike ride on the walking/cycle paths around the reservoir. The weather was glorious so we took our time doing the 26 mile ride, having frequent stops to have some snacks and take a few photos. Here is a small selection!

Took another stroll along the coastal path between Old Hartley & St Mary's Lighthouse and managed to see a nice variety of wild birds, namely, a Meadow Pipit, a Common Wood Pigeon, some European Herring Gulls, a Starling (amazingly colourful) and some Northern Fulmans

Had a few days away at Seahouses this week. The wind was providing some quite dramatic wave action and a wave did catch me out as you'll see from the third photo in the set! Holy Island was also given a visit and I managed to stay on my feet long enough to take a picture of St Mary's church with the priory ruins in the foreground, as well as Lindisfarne Castle peering through the rain and mist.

Had a quick visit to the local woodland park and RSPB site yesterday. Sunny but chilly! Lots of small birds (and a squirrel!) visiting the feeders so I used the long lens to get some close ups. The red eye is either a Water Rail or a Moorhen that was wandering down the path at RSPB Salthome

I had a lovely day in Wharfedale yesterday with a couple of mates. Grabbed a few photos including these of Posforth Gill Force waterfall and The Strid where the stream is forced into a narrow gap.

Had another visit to the shoreline at Whitley Bay today. The seal seemed aware of my attempts to take a photograph and posed accordingly!

Fort William and Glenfinnan Viaduct were the primary attractions for a few days break last weekend. We also took a ride on the Jacobite steam railway line to Mallaig and back so as well as photographing the viaduct with the train passing over, we also rode over the viaduct on the train - unfortunately a diesel engine because the steam train had broken down the day before. It didn't spoil the views though!
Here are a few of my photographs from the trip.

The National Centre for Birds of Prey is at Duncombe Park near Helmsley and is well worth a visit. We stayed for 2 of the 3 demo sessions, different birds on show for each session, and it was a great opportunity to get some birds in flight photography practice!
