St Thomas a Becket's Church in Grindon was built in the 12th century.

The church was abandoned in 1848 when Grindon Parish moved to Thorpe Thewles, in what is now called St. James' Church. A medieval grave and stone coffin from the site for a 'Roger de Fulthorpe' were moved to Thorpe Thewles more recently, and are now on display in the graveyard of St. James.

Now a ruin, the church and graveyard site sit in the middle of the fields where the former settlement of Grindon used to be, just off the Wynyard Woodland Walkway.
