Hi!

I'm currently working out a whole new plan for photo walks, with new courses, online learning and more at the moment and I'm thinking of asking you for some feedback soon, I would love to know your thoughts on my ideas moving forward!

For now the next photo walkshop is a special one organised with Hampshire Cultural Trust with the support of Culture in Common and will be in Lymington in the New Forest. The walkshop is on the 25th May and is only £3, thanks to the support of Culture in Common. Details of the walkshop and how you can book online via the link below. Hope to see you there!

Last bit of photography news from me is that I've been sharing more of my personal photography, including lots of analogue 35mm film, over on my Quiet Corners Instagram and Twitter/X accounts. If you are interested you can find me at:

First, thank you for supporting me with the bookings for the Calshot photo walkshop planned for tomorrow (Saturday 16th March). Sadly, I've had some cancellations this week which means we would now be a very small group, and what with the long journey to get there and the question over the weather too I've had to cancel the walkshop. I've had to do this a few times this winter for low number and bad weather and I hate to do it. For this workshop what with the travel costs to get to Calshot and back from Portsmouth and parking it just isn't economically the right thing to do, sorry.

It was a bit of a punt on this location as it is new for for these walkshops (but I've done a photography walk there last autumn) and a bit far from Portsmouth but I know it is an excellent location to take photos.

I've got one more walkshop planned for Itchenor on the 23rd March which is also a great location with loads to capture. After that I think I might take a little time to think over what to do moving forward. I do my best to make my workshops affordable but with the low entry cost they are then only viable if I have a certain number of participants. This winter it has been quite quiet with bookings. It might be the cost of living or I need different locations or maybe a new approach. Not sure. It's a tough balance as weekend time with my family is important too, but I love teaching photography and I always look forward to seeing lots of photographers on Saturday mornings.

Anyway, I hope that explains why I've had to cancel. Thanks again for the support and sorry.

- Paul.

Hi All,

Sorry to say that I've had a number of people not able to make it this evening to the point where I sadly can't run the workshop with such a low number of participants. I also think the weather may have been a question too for some. I try my best not to do this and often run small workshops but as this is an evening one I've had to make this decision.

I will run this walkshop again soon in the spring (it should...should be warmer then!) and please let me know any thoughts you might have on how I can make this workshop better, it might be intentionally fewer numbers and a more intensive programme of activities, it might be looking at specific techniques, please let me know.

Again, apologies, but I hope to see you soon out on a photo walk.

Best,

Paul.

Always awesome to hear about how people have experienced the photo walks!

If you check the website (www.photowalkshops.com) you’ll find 7 photography walkshops available with a mix of local favourites and some new locations too. We kick off where things began with a walk in Southsea, focusing on Black & White photography. From there then a return to Milton Locks, off to new location at Netley Abbey, light painting at night on Southsea seafront, returning to the ridge at Hilsea Lines, exploring new location of Colshot with it’s marine history and beaches and then back to Itchenor for the first time in a few years. As always, these workshops are for all abilities and everyone is welcome.

I’ve kept the cost of the 2 hour workshops to the 2023 price of £15, plus booking fee. If you book online but choose to pay in cash on the day you don’t need to pay the booking fee (I always used to do this previously to save having to carry lots of change).

I hope to see some familiar faces and some new faces on these upcoming walkshops, see you soon!

Catching up with sharing last year’s photo walkshops, starting with Fishbourne Meadows. You can find the write up on what we got up to plus loads of photos over on the photo walkshops website in the news section. New walkshops will be announced soon so while you are on the website if you sign up to the newsletter you’ll be the first to know when they are released. See you out there soon! - Paul

In early spring we headed down to a real favourite location: Fishbourne Meadows. This area is famous for it's history back to the Romans (the Roman Palace is epic) and it is at the northern edge of a channel of Chichester Harbour, a fantastic wetlands habitat. The harbour is an incredible place to visit and explore, just down the road from Portsmouth. From the mill at Langstone, busy Emsworth, the seals at Thorney Island, sailing at Itchenor, the historic shore at Dell Quay, the maze of reed beds at Fishbourne all the way to the quiet sand dunes of East Head… be sure to enter your favourite images from photo walkshops 📷👍🏻

🚨 📷 New Photography Competition 📷 🚨

We are very excited to be working with the Friends of Chichester Harbour as we launch this new photography competition! The theme is Celebrating Chichester Harbour so we want to see your photos that capture the beauty and joy this amazing place exudes!

The competition is open to all amateur photographers of any age. We ask that the photos have not won a prize previously, that they are your own work and taken in the Chichester Harbour boundary. All the terms can be found on the Friends of Chichester Harbour website. The closing date is the 30th of September 2023 - so get snapping!

You can enter up to 3 photos by following this link here https://gleam.io/eclej/celebrating-chichester-harbour-photography-competition

Partners in Art is a core part of the Pallant House Gallery Community Programme, where they match trained volunteers with someone looking for some support, in a creative partnership. The focus is on peoples art interest and not on their disability or support need. The key thing they match people on is their art interest and they currently have a few photographers who are looking for a trained volunteer to help and inspire them.

Pallant are delivering some training on Monday May 22nd, and so if you think this might be right for you, you can find more information here:

Very sorry to say that I have tested positive for Covid so I am going to have to cancel the walkshop on Saturday. I will be refunding any pre-payments now.

I’m going to re-arrange the date of Saturday’s walkshop asap. I’m under the weather at the moment but will be putting new dates on the website as soon as I’m able.

I hope to see you all soon when I'm fit and well! - Paul.
