One of those unexpected moments that became something special ✨

Back photographing Apollo's Fire at Snape Maltings, I spotted some of the musicians heading through the reeds towards the beautiful Barbara Hepworth sculpture.

I asked if they’d be up for a quick portrait — and instantly they brought humour, movement and character to the frame, pretending to play invisible instruments.

The best images often happen when people feel relaxed enough to play.

Baton and score in hand beneath the bridge, this portrait sits in the space between preparation and performance — the quiet moment where the music is no longer only on the page, but internalised, imagined, and ready to unfold.

He chose Little Venice — close to home — as a place where he walks to think and reflect, letting distance from the desk bring clarity to the score. For a conductor, everything begins on the page. But Unscored is about what happens when it moves beyond it.
