‘’HOPE’’ Journey Through Sri Lanka: An Interactive Exhibition by Calvin Chinthaka

The Alumni Group of the University of the Arts London (UAL) proudly presents a groundbreaking exhibition curated by an esteemed UAL curator Samar F. Zia, mentee Annette Fernando and others.

Featuring work by graduates of the University of the Arts London, the “Echoes of Lives, Past” exhibition includes Calvin Chinthaka’s HOPE series—an intimate body of work created during his 60‑day motorbike journey across Sri Lanka.

Calvin’s immersive collection is more than a visual document; it’s a celebration of the diverse social identities found across Sri Lanka’s urban centres and rural landscapes. Through 60 photographic prints, video footage displayed on iPads, and large-format prints on Hahnemühle h**p paper, viewers are invited to explore how communities coexist, intersect, and sometimes diverge along cultural, ethnic, and religious lines.

In a unique interactive twist, the exhibition invites visitors to engage directly. Guests are encouraged to cut and take away a piece of their favourite print, turning the space into a living, evolving artwork. The entire setup was custom-designed and installed by the artist, ensuring that each element reflects the thoughtfulness of the journey.

The exhibition at ArtEast Gallery has been met with enthusiasm and offers a glimpse into a future solo show and accompanying book. For more information, please contact [email protected]

Great to have my work selected as featured student work for the MA Fashion Photography section on the UAL: UAL: University of the Arts London website. It’s been an incredible journey shaping my voice as an image-maker through both my BA and MA in Fashion Photography at London College of Fashion

I’m deeply grateful for the guidance and support of Itai Doron, Michiel Meewis, and Paul Bevan throughout my studies.

Right, quick life update 👇

Today I’ve been awarded Chartered Photographer status by the The Royal Photographic Society (RPS), one of the highest professional qualifications in photography in the UK.

Chartered Photographer is the terminal qualification for professional photographers in the United Kingdom and is enabled by provision of the Royal Charter granted to the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) by HM Queen Elizabeth II (2004) as amended by
HM King Charles III (2025).

I’m incredibly grateful to the RPS and its President, Simon, for recognising my contribution to the photography industry. This one means a lot.

For those who may not know, this qualification is awarded exclusively by the Royal Photographic Society under its Royal Charter. The RPS is dedicated to advancing the art and science of photography, promoting high standards, and supporting professionals through its network and community.

Achieving Chartered status represents:
• Recognition as a qualified and experienced professional photographer
• Alignment with other chartered professionals across creative and media industries (e.g. Chartered Designers, Marketers, Directors)

This is both a proud milestone and a reminder to keep pushing standards, creativity, and impact in everything I do.

The RPS, through the provisions of its Royal Charter and By Laws has sole responsibility for the award and regulation of the Chartered Photographer designation.

Chartered Photographers are entitled to the use of the affix 'CPhot.

I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to UAL: University of the Arts London and London College of Fashion for my photography education, and a special thank you to Paul for his guidance throughout my MA in Photography.

Onwards 🚀

Early start to the day, wandering through the quiet backstreets of Shoreditch before another production day kicks off. It’s rare to see Shoreditch so calm. Of course, I couldn’t resist a detour—had to hit the old bagel shop on Brick Lane. Strange breakfast? Maybe. But definitely a good one!

Growth 500 isn’t just a list of fast-growing firms, It is a window into the real shifts happening across the economy.

The recent Growth 500 event at Sky Gardens in London was one of the most inspiring experiences I’ve had the chance to capture. It was incredible to witness the innovative ideas shaping the future of 500 British companies.

Always a pleasure working alongside such visionary business leaders. Richard Harpin Shaun Prime Melanie Shah Beatrice Povia
