‘’HOPE’’ Journey Through Sri Lanka: An Interactive Exhibition by Calvin Chinthaka
The Alumni Group of the University of the Arts London (UAL) proudly presents a groundbreaking exhibition curated by an esteemed UAL curator Samar F. Zia, mentee Annette Fernando and others.
Featuring work by graduates of the University of the Arts London, the “Echoes of Lives, Past” exhibition includes Calvin Chinthaka’s HOPE series—an intimate body of work created during his 60‑day motorbike journey across Sri Lanka.
Calvin’s immersive collection is more than a visual document; it’s a celebration of the diverse social identities found across Sri Lanka’s urban centres and rural landscapes. Through 60 photographic prints, video footage displayed on iPads, and large-format prints on Hahnemühle h**p paper, viewers are invited to explore how communities coexist, intersect, and sometimes diverge along cultural, ethnic, and religious lines.
In a unique interactive twist, the exhibition invites visitors to engage directly. Guests are encouraged to cut and take away a piece of their favourite print, turning the space into a living, evolving artwork. The entire setup was custom-designed and installed by the artist, ensuring that each element reflects the thoughtfulness of the journey.
The exhibition at ArtEast Gallery has been met with enthusiasm and offers a glimpse into a future solo show and accompanying book. For more information, please contact [email protected]
