Yesterday, time stood still at Portsmouth & Southsea Station 🚃

Baroness Beatrice Portsmeeth-Dines and her nephew Lord Archibald arrived on platform — dressed in full Victorian attire, 179 years after the station first opened its doors.

No screens. No rush. Just two figures from another era, pausing the commute and inviting strangers to stay awhile.

We were there to capture it on film and photo.

As part of Portsmouth100, Stay Awhile — created by Art Up Portsmouth CIC — is exactly the kind of moment that reminds you what this city is capable of. Unexpected. Theatrical. Deeply rooted in its own history.

Portsmouth is making a compelling case for UK City of Culture 2029. And it's not just in the grand gestures — it's in the spontaneous, human, beautifully strange moments like this one.

Portsmouth turns 100 — and the city is celebrating in style 🎊

Guildhall Square is hosting a massive flashmob organised by City of Portsmouth College — 250+ people from organisations across Pompey dancing through the decades together. SEND schools, colleges, daycare services, community groups… this is the city showing up for itself.

Sponsored by the brilliant Hampshire Flag Company — one of those companies that quietly does so much good across Hampshire. Worth a shoutout every time.

We Are Pompey 2029

We didn't even know it had aired 📺

A message from a friend changed that — they'd spotted our name in the credits of Susan Calman's Great British Cities on Channel 5 and couldn't wait to tell us.

We had to watch it back to believe it!

This project marked a huge milestone for Solent Sky Services — our first ever TV series broadcast commission. Commissioned by Daisy Beck Studios following a referral from Phil Fearnley at Halo Vue, Michael and Sara travelled to Bath to deliver every drone shot featured in the Bath episode.

We captured aerial footage across some of the city's most iconic locations:

Michael was even listed on the call sheet as Shooting PD & Drone — a real testament to the trust Daisy Beck Studios placed in our team.

Seeing Solent Sky Services in the credits of a national TV series is something we'll never forget. And we're just getting started 🚁

Lights, Camera, All Aboard — Railway 200 Community Flashmob

On 17th June 2025, we filmed a landmark community event in the heart of Portsmouth — a 100-strong flashmob in Guildhall Square celebrating 200 years of the modern railway. Working with City of Portsmouth College and funded by the GWR Customer and Community Improvement Fund, this was a full-day production spanning behind-the-scenes preparation, documentary travel filming, aerial drone coverage, and the performance itself.

We returned afterwards to capture follow-up interviews with students — turning a single event into a complete, lasting story.

Portsmouth 100 Centenary Flashmob will take place on Thursday, 11 June 2026, at 11:30 am in Guildhall Square which we will be filming again - be there if you can 🤩

We've been busy updating our new website and are excited to finally share a project page for this! 🎬

Back in 2023 we were called in by production company Unique Media to deliver live FPV drone footage for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race departure from Portsmouth's Gunwharf Quays. Our footage went straight into a global live stream — no editing, no second chances, just live FPV from the Solent with DJI Avata's.

They liked what we delivered so much that they invited us back for the 2024 return — and it was even more spectacular. The fleet had been at sea for eleven months and 47,000 miles. We flew for around four hours straight, coordinating Mexican waves between the returning yachts and the crowds on shore, all live on camera 🌊

Knowing our own families were watching the live stream from home while we were up in the air made it an incredibly special moment for our team.

Happy International Women in Maritime Day! 🌊⚓

What better way to mark the occasion than with a visit to SailGP Technologies HQ in Southampton! This morning, our very own Sara Woods attended the Maritime Solent WISTA networking event, hosted at the SailGP Technologies HQ in Southampton 🌊⛵

Sara got to hear from the SailGP team about how the organisation started, its timeline, the incredible technology behind the boats, and the positive impact SailGP is making both on and off the water.

She also had the chance to tour the premises and see first-hand how each boat is built — precision engineering combined with skilled craftsmanship. And if that wasn't enough, she got to try out the simulators the team use for training!

It was also a wonderful opportunity to meet and connect with other women working across the maritime sector — a reminder of just how much talent there is in this industry.

Thank you to the SailGP team for being such fantastic hosts, and to Maritime Solent WISTA for organising such a memorable event. 🙌

We couldn't help but look back at our own time on the water with them.

Last year, on behalf of ABP Southampton - Port of Southampton, we had the privilege of filming and photographing the SailGP racing yachts being lowered into the water in Southampton and sailing off to Portsmouth ahead of race day — an incredible spectacle for us to capture through our lens.

One thing Sara learned today that we never knew at the time? Every single one of those stunning F50 catamarans is built to exactly the same specifications, right here at the Southampton HQ. Identical boats, separated only by the skill of the teams sailing them. Knowing that makes those shots feel even more special.

It's always exciting when a client project connects back to something closer to home — and a great reminder of the world-class maritime activity happening right here on the Solent 🚁
