It never ceases to amaze me which of my photographs sell on stock image websites.

This latest download? A photo of some old cutlery! 🍴

When I press the shutter, I never really know what might catch someone's eye months or even years later. Sometimes it's a dramatic landscape, sometimes it's wildlife... and sometimes it's a handful of vintage knives, forks and spoons!

I often find myself wondering where my images end up. Are they illustrating a magazine article? Appearing in a cookbook? On a website? In a presentation? It's one of the fascinating mysteries of stock photography.

It just goes to show that you should never underestimate an ordinary subject. What seems everyday to you could be exactly what someone else has been searching for.

Have you ever looked at something completely ordinary and thought, "That would never be useful"? You might be surprised!



It's one of the things I love about stock photography—you never quite know what the next download will be!

Tonight we're celebrating the small wins! 🎉

Another photograph has just been downloaded from my Shutterstock portfolio! 📸

This one is especially close to my heart – it's a beautiful cup and saucer from my Gran's treasured tea set. It's lovely to think that something with so many family memories is now being enjoyed and appreciated by someone else.

Every download, no matter how big or small, is a reminder that people around the world are discovering and enjoying my photography. Thank you to everyone who supports my work – it genuinely means the world. 💚

This evening I had the pleasure of spending some time behind the camera with the wonderfully talented Sarah from Red Raw Studios. 📸✨

Sarah will soon be featuring in Cumbria Guide and got in touch as she realised she didn't have any recent photographs. It was an absolute pleasure to help.

I've known Sarah for quite some time now, and if you've ever seen her artwork, you'll know just how incredibly talented she is. Her beautiful pastel creations are full of colour, character and a real love of nature and the coast.

☔ Whoever said rain ruins a day in the Lake District clearly never visited Aira Force... 🌈

The waterfall was spectacular... but the umbrella stole the show. 🌈

Let's be honest... if you waited for perfect weather in Cumbria, you'd never leave the house!

So instead of hiding from the rain, I embraced it.

Standing beneath the roar of Aira Force Waterfall, surrounded by dramatic rock faces and ancient woodland, all it took was one ridiculously colourful umbrella to turn a rainy afternoon into something magical.

There's something wonderfully rebellious about bringing every colour of the rainbow into a world of black and white. It reminds me that even when life feels a little grey, you can choose to carry your own colour.

I came home soaked through, my camera bag was damp, my boots were filthy... and I'd do it all again tomorrow.

Because sometimes the best photographs aren't taken in perfect sunshine. They're captured in the moments when everyone else has run back to the car.

A rainy summer's day in Keswick turned into one of my favourite photography moments. 🌧️📷

As I stood watching the world pass by, I spotted a little boy walking with his family, wrapped up in a bright yellow raincoat and wellies, completely prepared for the Cumbrian weather.

Before I even pressed the shutter, I could already picture the edit in my mind. I knew exactly how I wanted the finished photograph to look, with the vibrant colours standing proudly against a monochrome world.

Years later, inspiration struck again.

I revisited the image and took the editing one step further, adding a single red balloon. It's amazing how one small change can completely transform the mood and tell an entirely different story.

Some people tell me it reminds them of *IT* and gives them the creeps... 🎈 Others absolutely love the mystery and imagination it creates.

I think that's one of the things I love most about photography—it isn't just about capturing what was there. Sometimes it's about creating a story that lets every viewer see something different.
