Turning Tides 🌊🍁

I took this during the second heatwave at the end of June, on the final day of resurfacing the road before heavy summer traffic would pass to and from the St David's Peninsula. The rich tarmac and freshly painted yellow lines popped out to inspire me to freeze this frame. I remember spending the rest of the day inside to keep cool.

But just like that, it seems as though the summer has said a final farewell in Pembrokeshire. Blackberry picking, wild and wooly sea dips, refreshing (but hopefully not too many strong) gales and cosy autumnal walks are upon us. I hope you're looking forward to time slowing down a little to reflect and rest.

Nobody Home

Except for a hydromedusa, a very tiny relative of a jellyfish. I can imagine that this particular species would forge a successful career as a stop light for fish highways! πŸ πŸš¦πŸ›£οΈ

Just Beneath

Above the water is too noisy right now. Just a couple of inches below is all you need to go to meet some curious critters, see some mesmerising mosaics of light and muffle the sounds inside and outside your head 🌊🐚🦞🫧

Parched

The landscape has been so dry in the last few weeks, and so has my inspiration for photography. I last created above water at the beginning of July before the height of the tourism season. Ever since I have been seeking solace beneath the sea or being kind to myself that September will bring more open space for creating again.

🌱😊

I hope you have a good weekend! β˜€οΈ

It's been a while 🌞

I hope your August has been off to a good start!

I have been spending more time in the rockpools and tidal lagoons around the coast, in an attempt to escape the chaos of the summer crowds. It's been a while since I posted and I wasn't quite sure where to start, but here are three moments that made me smile and feel at peace.

A curious shanny playing in the shallows, coralline algae in the cave entrance to low-tide lagoons and my first time exploring a passageway between, what felt like, two worlds 🌊

Where's your favourite place to find peace?

Penbryn, Aberdyfi, Abergynolwyn and Somewhere Secret...

A short break away from one seaside to another, and an escape into the woods, mountains and old mining history of North Wales.

I hope you are able to adventure and visit somewhere new this summer, even if it's close to home! πŸ¦‹πŸƒπŸ”οΈπŸŒ€οΈ

Seaweed Seas

You don't always need to go fathoms below to find something beautiful πŸͺΈπŸŒžπŸŒŠ

I am glad the weather is a little cooler, but warming up after a snorkel was a treat this past week, and I've loved getting back into capturing the moments beneath the surface πŸ“Έ

Do you know why they are called compass jellyfish? 🧭πŸͺΌ

Because they always point north! ⬆️

Actually, that's not true, but it's a fun one 😏

A slightly abstract take on a jelly that was probably too near my face, but the details, colours and textures are so beautiful.

No strobe for the time being so it's a case of experimenting with natural light 🌞😊

Pysgodyn Wibli Wobli...and Friends

πŸͺΌ πŸͺΈ 🐟

The first time I've taken underwater photos in a 3mm wetsuit since Cyprus.

A compass jellyfish, beadlet anemone and shanny all in a local tidal pool. Also present were moon jellies, blue jellies, sea hares, wrasse, prawns, blennies and probably many others!

When in such delicate habitats it is always a good habit to avoid wearing fins if possible and to move gently and slowly. It's also much more peaceful that way 😊
