This is the reason i've always been fascinated by our Irises.
I have half a brown eye!
Growing up i always said i was part fairy and that my half brown eye was the source of my magical powers 😝 ( i still say this - some of you will have heard me 😉).
This one isn't perfect as it's not tack sharp... turns out it's really hard to take a macro image of your own eye! 😂 i will try again - i'm still fine tuning my method, but I couldn't resist having a go!

Anyone else see the Antiques roadshow last night ???

If not … what if I told you one of the most iconic images in British history is actually a composite?

You know the classic Machin series stamp with Queen Elizabeth II’s profile?

The shoulders… aren’t the Queens !! 😝🤯

Apparently, back in the 1960s, sculptor Arnold Machin created the now famous ‘stamp portrait ‘ but it was originally just her head. When it came to finalising it, that felt a bit stark… and quite frankly a bit ‘head chopped’ off vibe 🥴😋
so it was decided shoulders would be added.

But not the Queen’s… her schedule was too busy to go back to the studio
So….
They brought in a different lady ( apparently a friend of Machin ) and used a bit of curtain from the studio to drape around her to create a softer, more elegant shape and then combined it with the Queens original head profile to create the final image.

Which basically means…

One of the most recognisable images in British history is, 90 billion copies made, … is a composite!!!

And as someone who creates composite artwork for a living, I blinkin’ LOVE this.

Because it’s such a perfect reminder that
🎨 images have always been constructed
🎨 artists have always tweaked reality to tell a better story
🎨 sometimes the most ‘real’ image… isn’t strictly real at all

I’m now looking for even earlier examples of composite art work …
I’ve thought of a few ! 😉

Hello everyone! 😊
I’ve been working on something a little bit special and hopefully a bit different, it's something i've been thinking about offering for a few years now...

Our eyes are completely unique, no one else in the world has the same patterns, colours, or details...i love them 😍

And when you see them photographed in macro, lit properly like this… they don’t even look real, They look like artwork...because they really are, just like all the best things in nature, like wildflowers... but i digress 😜

Soooo.... I’m soon going to be offering Iris Art, a way to turn your eye (or eyes 👀) into a bespoke piece of art.

✨ Individual iris portraits
✨ Couples and family pieces blended together
✨ Human + dog combinations (these are honestly incredible but tricky to get the dog eyes - as they wriggle but i'm working on this!! )
✨ Designed as beautiful wall art for your Home

It only takes a few minutes to capture, (unless you have 4 legs) but the end result is something completely one-of-a-kind.
no two will ever be the same, as unique as your beautiful Iris itself. 😊

I’ll be sharing some more examples soon, as i'm still working on perfecting some ideas and methods, but if you’re already thinking that you might be interested please message me and I'll pop your name on my list to find out the details first.
