Maternity sessions are best booked for that lovely stage where your bump is clearly showing, but you’re hopefully not at the point where putting socks on feels like an Olympic event.

Usually, around 28 to 34 weeks works really well.

You don’t need to know how to pose, and you don’t need to arrive feeling completely confident. Most people don’t. You’ll be guided through the session so you know where to stand, what to do with your hands, and how to relax into it without feeling awkward.

You can keep the session simple, include your partner or children, or make it a little more styled if that’s what you’d like.

If you’re expecting and would love some beautiful photographs before baby arrives, send me a message and we can chat through the details.

The splash bath is where the real personality comes out.

The cake has been explored, the serious birthday portraits are done, and then we get to this bit.

Bubbles.
Wet hair.
Pure splishy, sploshy chaos in the best possible way.

Honestly, some babies act like they’ve been waiting their whole life for their bath tub superstar moment.

The splash bath after a cake smash isn’t just practical, although yes, it does help remove cake from places cake should absolutely not be. It’s also one of the cutest parts of the whole session.

Big smiles, little toes, bubbles everywhere and usually a very soggy studio floor.

If your wee one is turning one soon, pop me a message and we can chat about booking their cake smash.

Do you think your baby would delicately splash, or go full bath-time menace?

Soft, but not boring.

Because that’s the balance, isn’t it?

You might want maternity photos that feel feminine and beautiful, but still like you. Not overly posed, not cheesy, not the sort of thing you look back at and think, “Who was that woman and why was she gazing into a fake sunset?”

This is why I love keeping maternity sessions flexible. Some mums want simple jeans and a shirt. Some want soft lace. Some want a bit of drama. Some have no clue what they want until they see the options.

All completely fine.

You don’t need to know exactly how your session should look before you book. We can work that out together.

If you’re expecting and fancy making a wee bit of time for yourself before baby arrives, pop me a message.

First birthdays are wild, aren’t they?

One minute they’re a tiny newborn doing that little scrunched up frog pose on your chest, then suddenly they’re sitting in front of a cake with a wooden spoon, looking like they run the place.

Cake smash sessions are messy, funny, unpredictable and very much led by the baby.

Some go straight in.
Some inspect the cake like it’s suspicious.
Some prefer the spoon.
Some mainly want to crawl away and make us work for it.

All of that is part of the fun.

It’s a brilliant way to celebrate turning one, with plenty of personality and a gallery that feels like more than just “baby sat beside cake.”

If your wee one has a first birthday coming up, message me to chat about cake smash sessions.

There’s something I really love about this kind of maternity photo.

No giant dress, no big production, no feeling like you’ve suddenly wandered onto a film set and need to know what to do with your face.

Just jeans, a white shirt, bare bump and that “oh wow, I actually look good” moment.

Maternity photos don’t have to be overly fancy to be beautiful. Sometimes simple does the job perfectly.

And if you’re sitting there thinking, “I’d love photos, but I’m awkward and I’ve no idea what I’d wear,” that’s exactly the sort of thing we can chat through before your session.

You don’t have to arrive full of confidence. That can build as we go.

Which would you choose for maternity photos, simple and relaxed or a wee bit more dressed up?

These are the photos that become more important with time.

The ones with grandparents. The ones with grown up children. The ones with little ones sitting in the middle, surrounded by the people who love them.

Family photography doesn’t have to be complicated or overly posed. Sometimes the most valuable thing is simply getting everyone together in one frame.

I know organising family photos can feel like a mission, especially when you’re trying to coordinate different ages, outfits, work schedules and attention spans.

But once it’s done, you’ve got it.

A proper photograph of your family as it is right now.

Family photos are not just for when the children are older and easier to organise.

They’re for this stage too.

The baby stage. The “bring the spare outfit” stage. The “please don’t be sick on that” stage. The stage where everyone is growing and changing so quickly it can feel impossible to keep up.

A family session gives you a proper record of this bit, with everyone included.

You don’t need to arrive knowing how to pose or how to get your baby to look at the camera. I’ll guide you through it and keep the session relaxed.

You just need to come as you are.

Preferably with snacks. Snacks never hurt.

Some photos don’t need a big smile at the camera.

This is exactly why I love the little in between moments during family sessions. The look, the laugh, the bit where everyone relaxes and forgets it’s meant to be a “proper photo” for a second.

Children don’t need to perform perfectly for family portraits. They don’t need to sit still the whole time or suddenly become formal little adults.

We’ll guide them, chat to them, let them be themselves, and capture the bits that feel real.

Because those are usually the photos parents end up loving most.

Focus on family.

Not perfect posing, not everyone needing to know exactly what to do, not children sitting like tiny statues for an hour.

Just you, together, with a bit of gentle guidance so it feels relaxed and easy.

Family photos are one of those things people often mean to book “one day”, then suddenly everyone has grown, changed, lost teeth, gained attitude, started school, left school, or decided they’re far too cool to cuddle you in public.

So this is your reminder to get in the photo while life looks like this.

A little bit chaotic, probably.

But yours.

You might have spent most of your pregnancy thinking a maternity session wasn’t really for you.

Maybe you didn’t feel like yourself.
Maybe it felt a bit indulgent.
Maybe you thought “I’ll just wait for the newborn photos.”

And then those final weeks creep in and suddenly it hits you, that this is nearly over.

So if you’re near the end of your pregnancy and suddenly wondering whether you’d regret not doing it, you’re not the only one.

Message me and we can chat about maternity availability 🤍
