Meet the worlds biggest fish 🦈

Happy International Whale Shark Day 💙 there is something so mesmerising about these swimming galaxies ✨ each one has a unique spot pattern which scientists can use to identify them.

Whale sharks are just one of three known species of filter feeding sharks, growing up to a maximum recorded size of 18.8 metres.

There is still so much we don’t know about these mysterious giants, one female whale shark was found to have over 300 pups in which is the largest known brood size of any shark.

They are an endangered species, with boat strikes, bycatch and the fin trade being some of their biggest threats.

One of my most asked questions 🖊️

I’ve collected a lot of art materials over the years, but these are the ones I keep coming back to time and time again.

For pens I always use SakuraUK pigma microns, they are perfect for capturing the tiniest details.

When I started painting again I bought a watercolour set by Winsor & Newton and I’ve used them for every project since. Adding a few different colours to the palette along the way.

I think Hahnemühle UK do the most beautifully textured cold pressed papers, I usually use 300gsm as a minimum.

Tom Gyr - Tom's Studio™ is one of my favourite brands, everything is considered, sustainable and unboxing packages from them always feels like such a treat. I use their mechanical pencil to start all my projects (you can use ‘RACHELBROOKSART, for 10% off orders over £30. Be sure to try their teas too! ☕️)

And lastly MEEDEN Art do the most stunning studio organisation, this trolley keeps all my supplies organised! You can also use ‘RACHELBROOKSART’ for 12% discount.

What are your favourite supplies?

Hammer time 🔨

It’s no surprise where these sharks got their name, one of the most easily recognised silhouettes in the ocean 🌊 and still one I am hoping to see 🤞

There are 10 species of hammerhead shark, with 6 of them being critically endangered. I’ve only illustrated the scalloped hammerhead and the great hammerhead so far, but I definitely want to add some more to my Sharks of the World collection - especially the bonnethead!
