Outdoor maternity sessions have a very different feel from studio portraits, and that’s exactly why some clients love them.

There’s a softness to being by the water, more space to move, and a slightly less formal feel, while still creating images that look polished and beautifully finished. They can feel strong and understated at the same time, which works especially well for maternity.

If you’re drawn to natural light and open spaces, an outdoor session can be a really good option. It still feels considered and professional, just with a different atmosphere.

This style of maternity photography is ideal if you want something elegant without it feeling too staged.

There’s a lot to be said for keeping newborn portraits simple.

When the styling is understated, all the attention stays exactly where it should be, on your baby. Their features, their expression, the tiny details that change so quickly in those first few weeks.

Not every newborn image needs props or elaborate setups to feel special. Some of the most timeless photographs are the quiet, close up ones that just show your baby exactly as they are.

Newborn sessions are always led around baby, with time built in for feeding, settling and cuddles, so nothing feels rushed.

Sibling photos during a newborn session are always worth making time for.

Parents often worry about whether an older brother or sister will cooperate, and that’s completely normal. The key is not to overcomplicate it. We keep things calm, keep expectations realistic, and work in a way that feels safe and manageable for everyone.

Some children settle straight into it, some need a bit more encouragement, and some are mainly interested for about thirty seconds, which is also fine.

The result is usually one of the most meaningful images from the session, simply because it marks the very beginning of that relationship.

Not every maternity session has to feel soft and traditional.

If you like something a little more styled, polished or fashion led, that can work beautifully too. Black and white portraits in particular have such a clean, timeless finish, and they’re a great option if you want something striking without it feeling overdone.

You don’t need to know how to pose or bring a big list of ideas with you, although this beautiful lady definitely acted like a pro! Direction is part of the session, so the aim is always to create something that feels elegant and well put together, while still looking like you.

Maternity photography can be simple, stylish and really beautifully considered.

If you already have children, your maternity session doesn’t have to be all solo portraits.

Including your child can make the whole session feel much more personal and relaxed. It also gives you a chance to capture that short window before baby arrives, when your family is on the edge of changing but not quite there yet.

Children don’t need to come in and pose perfectly for this to work. In fact, the best images usually come from giving them a bit of space, keeping things simple and letting the interaction happen naturally.

If you’re expecting and would like your maternity photos to include your older child too, it’s something we can absolutely plan for.

Maternity portraits don’t have to feel overly posed or uncomfortable.

A lot of mums worry they won’t know what to do in front of the camera, or that they’ll feel awkward once the session starts. That’s completely normal, and it’s exactly why the session is fully guided.

I’ll help with posing, angles and all the little details that make the final images feel elegant and flattering, without expecting you to suddenly know what to do.

You can keep things soft and simple, or choose something a little more styled and dramatic.

Either way, the session is about creating beautiful images of this stage in a way that still feels comfortable for you.

Newborn photography is about so much more than placing a baby in a pretty setup.

Every pose, wrap and prop is chosen with your baby’s comfort and safety in mind. Sessions are kept calm and unhurried, with plenty of time for feeding, settling and cuddles whenever needed.

You don’t need to arrive with a list of ideas or know exactly what colours will work best. I’ll guide you through the options and create a gallery with a lovely mix of images, from simple portraits to softer styled setups like this.

The aim is for it to feel easy for you, especially during those very early days when you’re already adjusting to so much.

The first family portrait after your baby arrives is always a special one.

Not because everyone has had loads of sleep, or because life suddenly feels perfectly organised, because let’s be realistic.

It matters because it captures the beginning of your family as it is now.

Newborn sessions can include parent photographs as well as images of baby on their own, and I’ll guide you through everything so you’re not left wondering how to stand, where to look, or what to do with your hands.

Simple, calm, timeless images of the people your baby will one day want to see themselves held by.

A maternity session gives you a chance to slow down for a little while and capture this part before everything shifts again.

You don’t need to know how to pose, and you don’t need to feel camera confident before you book. I’ll guide you through the session so it feels calm, flattering and easy, with gentle direction throughout.

These sessions are usually best between 28 and 34 weeks, when your bump is beautifully visible but you’re hopefully still comfortable enough to enjoy the experience.
