Part 2 – Four more ideas for photographers turning your still images into videos. Yeah, this might be a boring flower example but I promise these ideas will work for food photography and all kinds of product photography too.

As alway, my training is live and aimed specififcally at photographers adding video in.
I keep it really simple, no overwhelming gear or tech and just lots of access to me so you can ask ALL the questions. I even make the editing easy 🙂

Especially after sessions with very sleepy newborns, I always have a panicked moment as they leave where I feel I forgot to record enough video for their film 😳
I always have more than enough for a film, in fact I need very little footage for a minimum viable keep sake film (like SO little!) - I just don’t even notice recording the video anymore, it’s entirely muscle memory, so I feel I didn’t do it 🤷‍♀️

I promise video can be a simple extension of your photography rather than a huge big ‘other’ thing!

I was quite excited about this shoot back in July and excited to bring the gimbal… and then I offloaded the footage and realised hardly any of it was usable for the kind of content I like – most of the clips were too fast/short 🙈

Now I could have used it and made it into one of those crazy reels where each clip is half a second long and pretended that was the aim. But I hate those fast flashy reels and they are not on brand for my client either – so instead I just gave them a few pieces of footage from the gimbal and of course I had lots of other footage from the camera and tripod.

I also come away with images all the time that I don’t use – it’s fine! We try things, sometime they work out and sometimes they don’t... this is true for both pictures and video… we never really stop learning right?
Yet, we are busy pretending on Instagram that we have a 100% success rate, while we quietly feel not good enough 😉

If you are new to video, allow your self time to practise!

I see them from the house and very evening I think ‘I want to film and photograph that setting’ so one evening last week I did 😊
Hanging out in the fields behind our house in pretty light, what’s not to like… a photographers dream really.

Seriously though, there is an easy gentle way with video that doesn’t require tons of gear or complicated tech. Yep I did take a tripod and of course my trusted filter but it’s just my normal camera 📷

The farmers loves what I got so everyone’s happy 😀

Yep, that’s my trainer with my husbands phone recording a Timelapse of the moving clouds 🤷‍♀️ Sort of a ‘normal-ish’ thing for us… but I did look at the images last night and wonder if it might just be us??
Is this a typical photographer family thing? I can ALWAYS make time go by with a camera and get the others to join in 😀

😂🙈 I obviously didn’t think that up! We’ve been watching the European Athletics and I came across it there, but through it was funny 😉

Slowly trying to move from holiday mode into gentle working mode... still 10 days before both boys will be at school but no more travel. S took this of me on the beach in Denmark with my camera - I blinking love that both our boys will just effortlessly pick up my R5 and take pictures... and video.

Anyway, I’m back-ish, send me your video questions, send me your video creations, I’m ALWAYS interested in seeing them 😊

I had a small meltdown 😞
Instagram brough up a suggested account of a traveling family with BEAUTIFUL content – it sent me spiralling a bit…. My brain says that as a photographer I OUGHT to be producing content like that… I broke it all down into:

💛 Their kids are young and cute - ours our older, I now feel I didn’t capture the young stage well enough!

💛 They post a tons of sunrise and sunset – I’ve just 15 years of midday pictures/video because that’s when we are out and about together.

💛 They post a lot of drone footage – I never take the drone on holiday (in fact I rarely ever fly the drone!)

💛 She sells an online photography course, I looked at the details, I know everything on that list – yet my family holiday pictures looks nothing like hers, why not?!

It’s a lot of pressure being a photographer on holiday 😉

Anyway here’s a little glimpse of what I film for us on holiday. I obviously film tons of Chris and the boys, but the older the boys get the more I look for other things too. I will be making a little keep sake film for us with my very imperfect pictures and footage and I know we will love it 🥰

After I calmed down a tad, of course I do realise they are doing this as their business! They will be prioritising getting that content! The kids are dressed for it (cute girls in adorable dresses – will this always stir a boy mum?)! The husband is clearly on board helping with that content. They are content creators at work, we are photographers on holiday…..

Please say I’m not the only photographer who runs in these spirals??

This weekend I’ll be packing to fly to Montenegro on Monday, and I’ll be bringing my usual holiday photography gear! Do you take gear or no gear?

I really do love that little Urth bag, it doesn’t look like a camera bag and I’ve taken it EVERYWHERE since I got it 18 months ago.
Yep, I do drag my camera out and about but only with the tiny nifty fifty lens - and of course a filter so I can do nice video too 😉

We will have a swimming pool and be on the coast so of course the Go Pro is coming too with the dome! I have a little charging case with 3 batteries for the GoPro.

Yes, I know it’s “effort” and we all want to switch off… but I’m also really precious abut creating great memories for us as a family and the clock is massively ticking as the boys are getting older… 🥰

Ohh, and to all the photographers, please share your holiday pictures (even just in stories) I LOVE seeing other photographers personal work 🙏😍
