**To the Year 6 children I photographed this summer…**
This week, you're becoming Year 7.
And I hope you know just how much is waiting for you.
New friends you'll never have met yet.
Teachers who will see things in you that you haven't discovered yet.
Things you'll be brilliant at.
Things you'll find difficult.
Days you'll absolutely love.
And days when you'll just want to come home.
All of it is part of growing up.
Don't worry about trying to be the coolest, cleverest or most confident person in the room.

Just be kind.

Be yourself.

Find your people.

And remember that everyone else is figuring it out too.

And to your mums, dads and grown-ups…

I know you're proud.

But I also know there's probably a little bit of your heart breaking as you watch them walk through those high school gates.

Because we're always telling them to grow.

Until they actually do.

Then we wonder if we could have just kept them little for a bit longer.

So here's to the next chapter.

**Good luck, Year 7. ❤️**

Go and make it a good one.

Don’t worry if your children don’t want to pose — not a problem! 🥰 I capture your family just as you are: comfortable, happy, and having fun. Piggybacks, tree-climbing, running around — we’ll go with the flow and make it perfect!

Somewhere along the way, I think we've created this idea that the summer holidays have to look a certain way.
Days out.
Picnics.
Parks.
Ice creams.
Making memories every single week.
And I'm going to be honest… mine haven't looked like that.
This has actually been my busiest month. And please don't get me wrong — I am SO grateful for that. I've met lovely new families, photographed in new places and done the job that I genuinely love.
But alongside that, my editing took far longer than usual while I was waiting for my new computer, and suddenly I found myself spending more and more time working.
And somewhere in amongst all of that, I realised that Grace and I haven't done all the things I promised myself we would this summer.
There haven't been enough days out.
We haven't packed picnics and headed off on adventures.
We haven't spent every sunny day at the park.
And with Grace about to start high school, that realisation has hit me harder than I expected.
I think, as parents, we can be incredibly hard on ourselves.
We look back at the holidays and see everything we *didn't* do, rather than everything we *did* manage. We convince ourselves that everyone else has been making magical memories while our children have spent too much time in their rooms, watching TV, gaming, scrolling or just… existing.
So this is my reminder to myself as much as anyone else.
You don't have to create a perfect childhood.
You don't have to fill every day with an adventure.
And one busy summer doesn't define the kind of parent you are.
Would I do a few things differently if I could rewind the last few weeks? Probably.
But instead of sitting here drowning in mum guilt, I'm going to take that feeling and turn it into something positive.
Because Grace is still here.
There are still weekends.
There are still school holidays.
There are still ordinary afternoons that could become a memory.
And maybe the important thing isn't that we do *everything*.
Maybe it's just that we remember to make time for each other amongst everything else. ❤️

Not every child is going to run straight in, smile at the camera and happily do exactly what I ask.

And do you know what? **That is completely ok.**

During this session, one little lady had absolutely no interest in me or my camera at the beginning 😂 She wanted to run, explore and do her own thing, so that's exactly what we let her do.

While she stayed close to Dad, we took some photographs of Mum with the other children. There was no forcing, no telling her to smile and absolutely no pressure to perform.

We just spent some time together.

And eventually, right at the very end, she decided I wasn't *quite* so bad after all 😂

The photographs I got of her weren't posed. She wasn't standing still and looking at the camera. She was running around, laughing and having fun.

And honestly? **Those are some of my favourite photographs from the session.**

So if you're worried that your child won't sit still, won't smile, or might not want anything to do with me… please don't be.

We work around them. We take our time. We let them be themselves.

Sometimes the best photographs happen when we stop trying to make them happen ❤️

It was so lovely spending some time with Leonie, Vaughn, Maddie and little Marlie at Abbey Gardens. ❤️
From cuddles with mum, to giggles with dad and big sister, there were so many gorgeous little moments throughout their session. The kind of moments that might feel completely ordinary right now, but one day will mean absolutely everything. 🥹
Maddie was the perfect big sister, and little Marlie had everyone wrapped around her tiny little finger! 🥰
I couldn't resist sharing just a few little previews while I work my way through the rest of their gallery. 👀

I love the little moments like this ❤️

Not the perfectly posed, everyone-looking-at-the-camera moments…

The ones where your child is just being themselves, you’re laughing together, and for a second the rest of the world disappears.

I love giving families little things to do rather than asking them to *"pose"*. We’ll explore, play, walk, cuddle, hide in the bushes 😂 and generally just see what happens.

Because those are often the photographs you end up loving the most.

The photographs that remind you of **how it felt to be there**. ❤️

And I think this one does exactly that.

What does it look like to be almost 5? Cake, balloons and dinosaurs.. that's what!! At the end of this amazing birthday celebration I was asked to play with Ethan's dinosaurs. I jumped at the chance, but was at a disadvantage as his dinosaur had fire power!!
Thanks for a great evening!
