Golden eye - When you work with wildlife, you invest a lot of time. Some days you get action and most of the other times it basically drawing a blank. But you persist and working with badgers is no different. Sometimes like clockwork they emerge and make your day. But being wild animals, they sometimes have complete different plans and just go AWOL for days. Soon you start recognising individuals from the clan and you start giving them nicknames. This badger was special, we called it golden eye. When the eyes caught the sunlight they turned golden. Trust me it is not the norm. I'm convinced it knew I was there and could smell me because I used to lie down prostrate on the ground. But more importantly I'd won its confidence and it knew I meant no harm and allowed me to get some lovely shots in good light. One reason why I love working with wildlife and gathering these wonderful memories.

Money shot - An Osprey kissing the water just before striking a trout. This one is a formidable hunter a dominant male tagged 1H7 that has helped raise two chicks this year. He normally doesn't waste time. Comes in bobs his head a couple of times, adjusts its trajectory and boom. Hits the water and off he goes. This is one of the best shots I got this season.

Blues - My first blues of the season albeit they have been out for ages. We have some nice wild meadows now after a rewilding project. These little ones are making a strong comeback along with the other species. This one is a Common blue (Polyommatus icarus), a butterfly in the family Lycaenidae and subfamily Polyommatinae. The butterfly is found throughout the Palearctic and has been introduced to North America. The key is finding them a little late in the evening when they are trying to settle for the night. Otherwise they are quite quick and will give you the run around. I love doing macro just need to get out more.

Deep clean - A Kalahari lioness giving its little cub a nice deep clean. These little ones had spent the afternoon playing in the sand with their cousins. When this little one approached mum, she just looked at her probably thinking, "look at the state of you". 😁

Pretty in pink - The Roseate spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) social wading bird of the ibis and spoonbill family, Threskiornithidae. It is a resident breeder in both South and North America. The roseate spoonbill's pink color is diet-derived, consisting of the carotenoid pigment canthaxanthin, like the American flamingo. They vary in colour depending upon their diet. This one was beautiful with that characteristic pink and red/ deep pink wings with a grey bill. They are found in Southern part of North America and large parts of South America.

We have lift off - A Mandarin duck (Aix galericulata) taking off. Sometimes you have to be ready for that moment. Btw, this is without pre-capture. Just after preening itself it stopped and pooped. Normally it is a tell tale sign of a bird taking off. I had my finger on the shutter and boom it took off. I got the perfect shot. I'm waiting for a firmware update to assign pre-capture to a dedicated button, which would be ideal in a scenario like this. Currently on my camera it is a menu option which I have to hand, but still 3 clicks away. Anyway this is how you did it the old way.

Flying red - A Red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) flying through the air to get to the other side. The native Red is now locally extinct in the South of England with the exception of a few pockets. They are known for the distinctive ear tufts, bright red/chestnut coats. Some tend to be dark tan and a few melanistic too. They live in nests called "dreys". They are crucial to woodlands and often a key species for dispersal of seeds. They can leap over 2 metres and can plunge down 10-12 metres to the ground to escape pine martens or birds of prey. A beautiful rodent. No wonder, it is one of the most loved animals in Scotland.

On the prowl - A beautiful Leopardess called Esau on her evening walk. She was looking hungry and definitely scanning the riverbed for a potential meal. We had her company for a good 45 mins as she sat under a bush on the far side of the sand dune, then walked through the riverbed, crossed the dirt road and then walked up on the other side of the calcite dune. We had her in beautiful golden light as the sun was setting albeit the light was still very strong and she was walking straight into it.
