An ode to late summer, the fifth season, as it’s known in traditional Chinese medicine 🍃
Reading Substack has become my new favourite thing to do in mornings, it’s a good vibe over there and I always come away feeling like it’s time well spent having learned something, read something beautiful or with a new perspective (the opposite of Instagram!) This morning I read a post I loved by Liz Galarza all on finding presence in late summer / earth season. In it she wrote that she’s noticed people talking about Autumn being here since mid-august (!! as a Summer gal this freaks me out) and the struggles we have to stay present rather than always looking ahead. The gifts of this extra season in Chinese medicine is having the time to slowly transition from Summer to Autumn. After all, the Autumn equinox isn’t until the 22nd of September, so we still have a few weeks of late Summer goodness to enjoy before the season begins. The water is at its warmest, summer produce is still around, and the skies are at their most colourful. 🧡
So that’s what I’m planning to do, soak it all in, all the while noticing the subtle shifts towards the next season.
