Before we make a mess, we get some beautiful first birthday portraits too.

It means your gallery has a mixture of simple photographs that show off your baby’s personality, followed by all the cake covered chaos.

Then we finish with a tub splash, which is usually a hit even with babies who weren’t entirely convinced by the cake.

Your baby’s first birthday deserves more than one quick photograph beside the cake.

A cake smash captures all the expressions that come with it. The confusion, the first taste, the determined cake grabbing and sometimes the complete refusal to touch it at all.

Every baby reacts differently, which is exactly what makes these sessions so much fun.

Your maternity session can feel as dressed up or as relaxed as you’d like.

We can use gowns and create something more dramatic, or keep things simple with underwear, an open shirt or clothing that feels more like you. Most sessions include a mixture, giving you plenty of variety without making the experience feel like a costume parade.

The ideal time for maternity photographs is usually around 28 to 34 weeks, so booking ahead is recommended.

Newborn sessions don’t run to a strict timetable.

Babies need feeding, changing, cuddling and sometimes a break from being asked to sleep when they’ve clearly decided they have other plans.

I’m fully trained and experienced in newborn photography, and every session is led by the baby in front of me. We take our time, keep them comfortable and never rush to force a pose.

The ones who poke the icing with one finger, and the ones who immediately put both hands in and start redecorating the studio.

Both make brilliant photographs.

Cake smash sessions include some clean portraits before the cake comes out, plenty of time to explore and make a mess, then a little tub splash afterwards.

All little ones are different and I like to go at their pace.

So if that means a curious look around, a feed and a cuddle before we get down to photo-taking business, then that's absolutely fine!

No rushing, no pressure, just a lovely, calm experience.
