What the yap is going on? 👀

If you’ve been online in the last week or so you probably have come across people talking about the Jessi Jean Yapping Challenge and her successful $1.2 million launch of the challenge.

And it genuinely has its place. If you’re not a natural yapper and you freeze, overthink, or have yet again rambled for so long your 60 second reel turned into 8 min monologue - then something like this can really help you get more comfortable talking to camera. I’ve been curious about it myself, because I always want to try new things and get better at the bits that don’t come naturally.

So if talking to camera is something you want to work on, go for it. 😊

The only thing I’d add is that you don’t have to follow every trend and you don’t have to go all in on one format just because it’s working brilliantly for someone else right now.

Visibility isn’t a template that fits everyone the same way.

I’ve grown my socials and my business through a mix of photos, B-roll, carousels, written content and the occasional talking-to-camera moment. Not just one thing, and that’s allowed.

So instead of mimicking what everyone else is doing, try asking yourself what you can create consistently that actually feels like you. Because the best content strategy is the one you’ll genuinely stick to, whether that’s yapping, photos, B-roll, carousels, or a happy mix of all of them. 💜

🤫 And if you’re actually looking to built or update your content bank of photos and b-roll my Content & Connect Day was basically made for you. 📸🤳

If you scrolled all the way to that last slide thinking „hang on, the photographer?“... yep. It’s true. 😅

I take photos and videos of people for a living and I still feel a bit odd when a camera’s pointed at me. I still have days where I’m not keen on how I look. I’ll happily chat for hours and then go all weird the second I hit recording. And for a long time I just hid behind my work, because putting my own face out there felt very vulnerable.

So when you tell me you’re nervous or that there isn’t one photo of yourself you actually like, I’m not nodding along to be polite. I’m nodding because I really know what that feels like.

Feeling weird on camera isn’t proof you’re not meant to be seen. It usually just means nobody’s ever made it feel safe, shown you what to do with your hands or caught the version of you that actually looks like you.

The clients who swear blind they’re „the worst in front of a camera“ are almost always the ones who get all excited going through their gallery, because they didn’t expect to actually LOVE their images (and more importantly themselves in them).

You don’t have to love the camera. You just need someone who gets the awkward bit and knows how to make it easy anyway. I’m also a big fan of embracing the awkward, it’s so much more fun.

Save this for the next time you talk yourself out of being in your own content and when you’re ready to have photos/videos you don’t actually want to delete, you know where I am. 💜📸

Here’s what you’ll walk away with in just one cosy day:

It’s my birthday week, which historically means I make questionable decisions. This year’s questionable decision is a very good offer for you. 😅

Can’t believe I’m going to be 37 on Saturday! I’m still getting ID’d sometimes, still no clearer on when the „feeling like an adult“ part kicks in, still slightly stunned this is my actual job.

Here’s the deal: book a 1:1 branding shoot with me this week and I’ll add a 20-minute b-roll session for free. That’s £165 of extra content, the stuff that makes your reels, stories and website look like you actually have your life together, even if you very much do not. (same)

Book this week, shoot in June or July. So the pressure’s off.

You don’t need to be camera-ready by Friday, you just need to stop waiting for a version of yourself that feels „ready“ because she’s not coming. The slightly nervous, not-quite-sure version of you photographs beautifully too. I promise. 🤞🏻

Comment BDAY and I’ll send you everything you need to book.

Feel free to repost this and if you’ve got a friend who’s been hiding behind the same one decent photo since 2021, send this their way. 👀

Best birthday present you could give me. 🎂🪩💜

P.S. Which party hat is your favourite? 😂🥳

📸 June availability drop (because somehow we’re almost halfway through the year already and I haven’t emotionally processed January yet).

June is looking pretty busy with shoots, co-working, networking, Atomicon and the very important business activity of turning another year older 🎂✨

I’ve only got 2 spaces left for 1:1 branding shoots/events this month. So if you’ve been thinking:

👉🏻 “I really need new photos”
👉🏻 “My website still has pictures from three hairstyles ago”
👉🏻 “My son meme content bank is pretty empty.”

…this might be your sign. 🪧 😂

Here’s what’s happening:

📸 Need fresh branding photos before summer? → June
🎥 Want content and b-roll so you’re not scrambling for Instagram posts every week? → June
👩‍💼 Need headshots that don’t scream “past corporate life is haunting me”? → June

🤝 Fancy a small, relaxed and supportive day creating content with other business owners? → I’ve got 4 spaces left for Content & Connect Day on 26th June

And yes, it’s my birthday on the 6th, so if you book a shoot you’ll be contributing to an important cause: funding birthday treats and cake. Purely charitable, really. 🍰😂

📩 Drop me a message or fill in the enquiry form on my website and tell me what you’re after. Branding shoots, headshots, video, events, content days… all welcome. 💜

Last week I was part of something magical. ✨🪄🦄

I was standing in for my friends Daris & Lisa from to capture the magic that is ’ One Day Choir in a church in the heart of London.

Having the privilege and pleasure to witness strangers coming together through their love of music and harmonising like they’ve always done this, is one of those things that makes me love my job even more. 💜🤌🏻📸

If you want to know more about James and the One Day Choir then check out his profile and keep an eye out for next month’s date. 🎶

Hello, biz owner who definitely doesn’t hate having their photo taken (we’ll work on that) and who’s been quietly putting off their brand photos for, oh, a year or two. 👋🏻

The algorithm just did something useful. Lucky you. 🍀

I have 3 spots for personal branding shoots in June and one of them has your name on it. 👀

Here’s what shoot day actually looks like: less formal photoshoot, more really good hang with someone who happens to have a camera and knows what they’re doing with it. We explore, we chat, we probably get coffee. You stop thinking about what to do with your hands somewhere around the first ten minutes. There’s usually a lot of laughing involved as well.

You show up as you are. Right now. Imperfections and all. Not hiding the bits that make you a bit different, even the ones you think look unprofessional or are too much. Because those are usually exactly what make the right person think “yes, her, that’s who I want to work with.”

Good branding photos don’t just attract people. They also quietly tell the wrong ones to keep scrolling.

Then boom 💥 you walk away with images/videos that actually look like you and do real work for your business.

Sound good? Comment VISIBILITY below to find out more.

👉🏻Also I’d love to hear what your „weird“ / USP is?

I go first - people usually recognise me for my purple hair and colourful wardrobe.

Your imperfections aren’t the problem. Hiding them is. 👀

You are the hook.

Your brand colours will get you noticed. Your logo will make you recognisable. Your fonts and your aesthetic will tie it all together. But none of that will make someone book you.

You will.

The actual you. Faults, weirdness, imperfections and all. That’s what makes someone stop mid-scroll and think “oh, yes, that’s it!”

And yet most people are hiding. Behind old headshots. Behind graphics, generic stock photos and quotes. Behind a polished, play-it-safe version of themselves that looks absolutely fine and feels like absolutely no one.

Here’s the uncomfortable bit: the watered-down version of you isn’t protecting you. It’s costing you. Because if people can’t see you, they can’t connect with you. And if they can’t connect with you, they won’t book or buy from you.

Stop waiting until you feel ready. Stop aiming for perfect. Stop cropping yourself out of your own content.

The real you, in front of the camera, with photos and videos that actually feel like you? That’s the strategy. That’s what builds a business.

Comment VISIBILITY and I’ll send you more info on how we can best work together to get YOU seen. 📸💜

Social media makes my job look like I spend all day photographing fabulous people, hyping women up for a living, travelling to cute locations and generally living my best creative life ✨

And to be fair… that part is true. 🤭

But what you don’t see is the less glamorous side of being a personal branding photographer:

Formatting SD cards.
Charging approx. 47 batteries.
Backing up images like my life depends on it.
Renaming folders.
Answering emails.
Sending invoices.
Cleaning lenses.
Packing and unpacking gear.
Wondering why I own SO many hard drives.
Prepping timelines.
Doing admin instead of editing because apparently running a business requires “systems” and “organisation” and other rude things.

A huge part of this job actually happens long before I even pick up the camera.

Because the smooth client experience, turnaround times, calm energy on shoot day and galleries people genuinely love? That doesn’t happen by accident.

It’s built in all the little boring-but-essential tasks behind the scenes.

To be fair, even with the admin mountain and the never-ending battery charging… I still wouldn’t trade this job for anything 🫶

Now tell me: what’s the most boring part of your job nobody sees? 👀
