Built from 1420-1436, Brunelleschi’s Dome (The Duomo) is the still to this day, the largest masonry dome ever constructed. The level of architecture that was employed during the renaissance is truly remarkable. The Duomo is a beautiful structure from every viewpoint in Florence, standing over 300ft high, it’s unmistakeable on the skyline.

The way our ancient ancestors constructed some temples with perfect alignment for a celestial event is fascinating. For instance, The Pantheon was built in 125 AD features and 8 meter wide opening in the dome called the “Oculus”. Every year on April 21st ,which is coincidentally the birthday of the city of Rome, the sun shines through the Oculus at 1pm (originally 12pm) and perfectly illuminates the door. These types of events aren’t witnessed by most of us and I’m grateful to have been there.

➡️ Swipe to the last image to see the light on the door and note that it’s not exactly perfect because of some cloud cover at 1pm that didn’t allow for a dramatic image but was awesome in person.

Barnard 33 (The Horsehead Nebula) and NGC 2024 (Flame Nebula) and located in the Orion constellation. Located between 1350-1375 light years from Earth. This is one of my favorite Astro targets and I’m thrilled to finally produce an image of it that I’m proud of. I’ll probably revisit it to add some other color data to it. I have added a starless version as well.
