Take a walk down County Road or West Derby Road.

How many v**e shops, mini marts and barbers do you see? It feels like every time you go down there another one has opened.

Meanwhile independent shops that have been part of Liverpool for years are getting wiped out. Family businesses, local shops, struggling while our high streets are changing completely.

The Government have now announced a ÂŁ30 million crackdown on suspected criminal businesses, with v**e shops, mini marts and barbers being looked at because of the amount of cash they deal with.

Trading Standards and police are getting more resources to look into it. It will be interesting to see what they find across Liverpool because some areas have changed massively in a short space of time.

Liverpool was always a city of innovation.

On this day in 1886, Liverpool’s Fire Brigade demonstrated one of its new steam-powered fire engines, marking a huge leap forward in protecting one of the world’s busiest ports.

In an age of crowded warehouses, bustling docks and tightly packed streets, this powerful new technology meant firefighters could deliver far greater volumes of water and respond more effectively to major blazes.

Another reminder that Liverpool wasn’t just leading the world in trade—it was leading the way in public safety too.
