OCONN Studio

OCONN Studio Modern Minimalist Photography - by George O'Connor The result is photography that feels considered, composed, and quietly expressive. Photography, as form.

George O’Connor is a British–Irish photographer and the eye behind OCONN Studio, working between Liverpool and Leipzig. His photography blends clean composition with emotional depth, shaped by a background in both art and personal experience. George’s style draws from the sculptural clarity of Scandinavian design, the calm focus of Japanese and Korean aesthetics, and the functional elegance of the

Bauhaus. His approach is often solitary and analogue - shooting on medium format film with a focus on mood, light, and space. Whether working with individuals, artists, curators or brands, George builds each image with care, treating light and shadow as part of the structure, not just the atmosphere. What ties his work together is a respect for simplicity and a belief that stillness can be just as powerful as spectacle. Every frame is crafted to last - not just to impress, but to resonate. OCONN Studio is for those who value thoughtful, concept-led photography. Work that doesn’t shout, but stays with you. As feeling. As something human.

Real moments > staged ones.

This was one of my favourites from MSP’s 25th. No posing, no prompt. Just pure joy, caught mid-laugh.

These are the frames that stick with me.

Full set now live on the blog. Link in bio.

I wanted to show more than just the big moments at MSP’s 25th. The real charm was in the in-between - conversations, glances, that brief pause with a drink in hand.

These quieter scenes say just as much, if not more.

The full gallery’s now up on my blog.

Colin and his colleague took the stage in front of a packed Skybar at INNSiDE Liverpool, kicking off MSP Global’s 25th anniversary with stories, smiles, and a quiet pride that filled the room. It was the kind of moment you feel, not just hear.

🎮 The sh*****ng coast, seen through a different lens.
Modern tools meet timeless toil. Drone's-eye view of the Formby shrimpers in action. Sometimes, documenting tradition means stepping back… and way, way up.

Colin, interviewed for a forthcoming NDR documentary exploring coastal life around Liverpool. The Formby sh*****ng tradition is just one strand in this 25-minute portrait of the North West’s shoreline culture. Airing this autumn on Germany’s NDR.

Colin. Shrimp-slinger, storm-dodger, sandbank strider.
Joined the crew a few years back — now he pulls that net like he was born to it.
Always got a grin, even when the tide’s got attitude.
You’ll hear him before you see him, and see him before you forget him.

Seagulls: The Original Freeloaders.
No licence, no nets, no shame.

While Kevin and Colin work the tide, the airborne mob hovers — loud, shameless, hungry — squawking entitlement with every flap. This is the coastal tax. The price of doing honest work under a thieving sky.

But the men carry on. They’ve done this too long to flinch at feathered hecklers. Their hands know the ropes. Their boots know the sand. Their banter cuts through the wind, same as ever.

A portrait of two working men, soaked in sea and tradition, quietly enduring nature’s oldest racket.

Photographed during BTS for an upcoming NDR documentary on Liverpool’s coastal life.

This is Kev Peet — shrimpman, entertainer, Merseyside legend.

He’s worked these coastal waters for decades, netting shrimp the traditional way, sieving the small ones back into the sea, and selling the catch directly to locals from his own fishmongers in Southport.

I took this photo on a cold, early morning out on the sands. What looks like a grin is actually him wincing after a splash of saltwater hit him square in the eye. But honestly? It sums him up perfectly — stoic, proud, hilarious. No fuss. No drama. Just the day’s work, with a bit of flair.

A portrait of a man who knows exactly who he is, and why he does what he does.
