Three reasons I like to keep any running shots until the very end of a photo shoot ….

🐾 Tongue in and mouth closed are better for portraits
🐾 Letting off steam is best held onto until the end
🐾 Staying dry is best for the all important portraits

And finally, it isn’t always possible to achieve action shots, it doesn’t suit every dog or location and other variables come into play too.

Capturing special bonds in natural environments …

That probably sums up my work as a dog photographer here in Yorkshire 🐾🐾

I love to create a relaxed environment, working at the right pace for both the dog and the humans, because once everyone is relaxed, my style of photography comes into its own.

And I always hope that everyone goes away having had a positive experience with me ~ I know this family did because they very kindly told me so. And that makes me a very happy photographer!

A calm, early morning woodland walk can certainly help but of course no walk at all in very hot temperatures will not do any dog any harm.

I created a series of branded graphics during lockdown - when I wasn’t able to photograph but still needed to keep the message out there….

I’d say this is still as relevant as ever …. And of course features my beautiful girl in my logo.

Black and white photography brings me closer to the subject as a photographer…..

I can see a black and white image before I make it and it’s always about the emotion, the moment and storytelling for me.

No distractions, honing in on the feeling, this is why I generally include black and white images in my dog photography collections.

On a windswept Yorkshire moor ….

I wouldn’t say dog photography is a glamorous job 😆 as I’m often windswept, disheveled, filthy, covered in mud or paw prints having knelt, crouched or sometimes even laid down but …..

I wouldn’t have it any other way! 😁🐾🐾🤎

It’s not always about front facing portraits with my dog photography.

Of course it’s great if a dog looks right down the lens but it’s not absolutely essential.

Working as The Yorkshire Dog Photographer, I am constantly in different locations, different lights and with varying dog breeds of course. And with two or more dogs in a session, it can be busy!

So in capturing these lovely Labs in a woodland setting, I wanted to tell the story of their character against the backdrop of the beautiful bluebells. And of course I wanted to capture them side by side if I could.

My advice to you if you’re considering a professional dog photo shoot is, stay relaxed and don’t worry if things don’t quite go to plan ~ I’ll always find a way to capture your dog (s) with you and them feeling as comfortable as possible 🙂
