Good news.

This morning we saw the otter and he was free of his "ring".

As soon as I'd seen what a friend believed to be the "ring", I hoped he might be able to bite through it, as the rubber was pretty thin.

Took a while in the harsh sunlight this morning, to get a clear view of his nose and that pink scar marking, but it's him, and he's fine.

He was spending quite a bit of time mooching around the shore in search of fish and crabs hiding beneath the seaweed, and he slept a lot, but it was a warm day today.

Thanks for all the messages of concern about him, and especially to the Mull Otter Group, George, Brian, Nic and John for their help.

A happy ending. 🙂

This is what we think WAS around the otter. It’s a ring of rubber used to tie oyster bags to the beds. A friend who lives here said he’s found quite a few lying around over the years.

They’re sometimes made of inner tube.

He’s got rid of it.

Hopefully someone might be able to identify what it is, beyond what we think it is.

I didn't see him today, which sort of illustrates part of the problem for anyone trying to help. Finding otters is difficult, and finding a specific one, can be really hard.

Please don't bother with the "why didn't you help him" posts. I'm done answering them.

A poor dog otter seen today with some sort of thick plastic ring trapped around his body. I’ve let the local otter group know but it’s going to be difficult to help him.

Hoping to see some kits soon at the woodland. Even so, the adults are gorgeous anyway.

Starting to get bookings for photography workshops with these wonderful creatures for the colder months. And they will be a part of my Highlands Winter Tours in December.
