Baby girl, I’m tired too…

Running a small business whilst being a full time mum to a breastfed one year old is a balancing act I don’t think I was quite expecting.

Some days I answer emails with Jax on my lap. Some days work gets done during nap times. Some days neither happens because my little one needs me more.

Throw postpartum recovery and a recent autoimmune diagnosis into the mix, and honestly, it’s been tough.

But I’m learning that success doesn’t always look like doing it all. Sometimes it looks like showing up where you can, giving yourself grace on the hard days, and remembering that both your business and your baby are growing at the same time.

To all the mums building a business around family life, I see you. It’s messy, exhausting, beautiful, and one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

Still learning. Still figuring it out. But seeing things more clearly than ever.

There’s something about being at home in those early days. No pressure to be anything other than exactly as you are. Feeding, holding, settling… just finding your rhythm together with your new little life. Your baby doesn’t need to sleep the whole time, your home doesn’t need to be perfect. These sessions are all about capturing how it really is, how it really felt.

Here’s an in home newborn session I did recently. Obsessed with in in black and white.

2025

I started the year pregnant and ended it as a first-time mum.

With only four working months, most of the year was spent learning how to live an entirely new life.

A few things I got up to along the way…

Photographed new clients,
Reconnected with returning ones.

Had my own maternity shoot with the best

Celebrated with two baby showers (very lucky me) thank you to my tog girls and our sisters šŸ¤

Shot a project for a builder, something I’m really leaning into and planning to grow as part of my architectural portfolio follow for more!

Took part in a studio lighting workshop with the very talented .uk and loved it. Always learning, always growing

Unlocked my proudest title yet: mum
And welcomed baby Jax, the greatest achievement of my life.

Experienced NICU life… which taught me more about myself than I could ever have imagined

Had my own newborn shoot with

Did my first family self portraits for Jax turning 6 months. It was bloody hard but I captured some lovely moments, like the photo in this post.

Many play dates were had (this is my life now) So many memories, so many firsts… Truly the best year yet.

Now… it’s time.
Working mum life activated.
2026… I’m coming for you.

A love that started with ā€˜I do’ and grew into family. As we were celebrating their beautiful baby girl, a tiny rainbow arched above us. A gentle hello from her big brother in the sky 🌈

Swipe to see them on their wedding day 7 years ago! (01/11/2018) photographed by me.

This chapter has been all about slowing down, soaking up newborn cuddles, and finding my feet in the beautiful (and sometimes blurry) days of early motherhood.

I’m still on maternity leave at the moment as I’m exclusively breastfeeding and focusing on being fully present with Jax. Once we reach the weaning stage, I’ll start easing back into work with plans to officially return and take on sessions from Feb 2026.

It does mean I won’t be doing any Christmas minis this year, but I promise it’ll be worth the wait. I’ve got some gorgeous ideas brewing for next year and can’t wait to create again with fresh inspiration (and probably a lot more coffee).

Thank you so much for all your patience, kindness and support, it really does mean the world. šŸ’›

Oh how I’m going to miss the outdoor summer shoots this year. Throwing it back to before I went on maternity leave. An outdoor family shoot with one of my regular and fabulous families. I always look forward to photographing them, they are so much fun and it’s been such a pleasure watching their family grow and being the one to capture it. We couldn’t quite get a holden hour shoot booked in so we went for a mid morning one. And I have to say it did not disappoint. Shooting in bright sun has its challenges but how beautiful do they look!

Didn’t even get the chance to post our maternity session before baby decided to make an early arrival.

I knew it before but I know it even more now. There is no one on this earth I would choose to do this with.

We didn’t take the scenic route to family, we chose the steep, winding mountain path, not knowing how wild the ride would be.

As a same s*x couple, we already knew our journey to parenthood wouldn’t look ā€œtraditional.ā€ But what we didn’t expect was that both of us would face cancer diagnoses that could steal our fertility before we even got the chance to try.

Radical surgeries, scars, both seen and unseen and the lingering fear of what if we can’t? But even in the face of all that, we made a promise, we will find a way.

Two IVF rounds later, those two pink lines became our greatest gift. We knew our pregnancy was high risk but after all we had faced already we knew we could get through it!

A few too many scares along the way and 33 weeks later. Our little one decided to make an early appearance. And before we knew it we were parents to a premature beautiful little boy. One more challenge to add to our journey because by this point…. we can handle anything!

4 weeks of being mothers. Smashing it babe!
