Black & White Frames, Big Feels.🖤

I LOVE a black & white wedding photo.

There’s something about stripping away all the colour that makes you notice the little things – the laughs, the looks, the cuddles, the “I can’t believe this is actually happening” moments.

But honestly? These photos also say something pretty important about how comfortable you felt with your photographer.

Because when you feel awkward, nervous or like you’re constantly being watched, it shows.

And when you feel relaxed? THAT shows too.

The genuine laughs. The silly faces. The little touches. The moments where you completely forget there’s a camera there.

That’s always my goal – not to make you perform for the camera, but to make you feel so comfortable that you can just crack on with being yourselves.

And if that means I’m laughing along with you, giving you a ridiculous prompt or occasionally looking like an absolute weirdo behind the camera… so be it….😂

Because your wedding photos should look like you felt.

A little bit of love, laughter and a whole lot of joy... 🖤

I was absolutely delighted when my friend Your Scottish Humanist Celebrant 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 asked me to capture her vow renewal celebration.

To be trusted to photograph something so personal for two people I adore was honestly phenomenal.

And what an absolute bundle of joy these two were!

There was so much laughter, so much love and just the loveliest energy between them. The kind of couple who make you smile just by being around them.

And because apparently photographing the celebration wasn’t enough fun, we then headed back to their lodge for hot tub time and a barbecue.

Honestly, this is exactly why I love what I do.

I get to photograph people’s love stories, but sometimes I also get to do it for people who have become genuinely good friends – and those days are pretty awesome.

Thank you both for trusting me to capture this little chapter for you.

Can we talk about wedding shot lists? 👀

I know you want to make sure you get all the important photographs – your parents, grandparents, siblings, best mates, the whole gang…

And I completely understand why.

BUT.

One of the biggest things that can eat into your wedding day is having a massive list of formal group photographs.

Every single combination takes time.

“Couple with mum and dad.”

“Couple with mum and dad and siblings.”

“Couple with parents, siblings, auntie, uncle, cousins, the dog…” 😂

Before you know it, your drinks reception has disappeared and you’ve spent an hour standing in a line-up instead of actually enjoying your wedding.

This is where I need you to trust me.

After photographing a lot of weddings, I know how quickly these lists can snowball.

My advice? Keep your formal group photos to the people and combinations that genuinely matter to you.

If you’ve got too many different combinations written down because you’re worried someone might be offended if they aren’t included… let’s talk about it.

I’d much rather help you create a realistic list that we can smash through efficiently, leaving you plenty of time to enjoy your drinks reception, chat to your guests and actually eat the canapés you paid for.

Because yes, you want the photographs.

But you also want to experience the day those photographs are documenting.

So when I give you advice about your shot list, timeline or family photos – please take it on board.

I’ve had to turn away a couple of lovely couples just this week because their dates were already booked – and it’s always SO hard having to say no!😭

I disappeared from socials for a bit. 👀

Not because I’d quit.
Not because I’d run out of things to say.
And definitely not because I’d forgotten my password…😂

I just needed a break.

Peak wedding season is BUSY. And when you’re a one-woman business, there are only so many plates you can spin before one inevitably comes crashing down.

I’d rather spend my energy giving my couples the experience they deserve than stressing because I haven’t posted a Reel today.

There’s so much pressure on small business owners to be visible ALL. THE. TIME.

But we’re not robots.

Sometimes you need to step away from social media and actually get on with the thing you built the business to do in the first place.

For me, that meant photographing some bloody brilliant people, editing their galleries and generally putting my focus where it needed to be.

And guess what?

Instagram and Facebook survived without me!

So I’m back – but without the pressure to be everywhere, every day.

Because I’m a photographer.

Not a content-generating machine 💖

Instagram only lets me share 20 photos at a time… so I’ve decided to embrace it.

Actually, I think it’s a really good thing.

From now on, when I share a wedding day, I’m going to be choosing 20 frames that tell the story of the day.

Because honestly, sometimes less is more. Instead of trying to cram in every single moment, I get to really think about the images that matter – the little moments, the big moments, the chaos, the laughs, the happy tears and all the bits in between.

So, 20 frames. One wedding day. One little story.

And what better wedding to start with than Lyndsay & Josh at one of my favourite local venues.

✨ SNEAK PEEK – Allison & Ritchie ✨

These two tied the knot at Balbirnie House on Sunday – and they did it in utter style.

As good friends of the wonderful Yvonne Hannah Celebrant, being trusted to capture their day was an extra big deal for me.

And honestly… I think this was the best weather I’ve seen all year! Perfect for an outdoor ceremony – beautifully overcast with just the right amount of light. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does… chef’s kiss.

So many happy tears. So much emotion. SO much fun. People travelled from all over the world to be there, and it was one of those days where you could genuinely feel how much these two mean to everyone around them.

So here’s 20 little slices of an absolutely brilliant day.
