The sitter stage is such a good age to photograph.

They’re usually full of expressions, little smiles, and loads ofpersonality, but they’re not quite at the “catch me if you can” stage yet.

Which, from a photographer’s point of view, is very helpful.

Sitter sessions are perfect once your baby can sit confidently on their own but before they’re properly crawling away at speed. We can keep the setup simple, add a little styling and capture this stage perfectly.

When you book a newborn session, it doesn’t have to be only photos of baby on their own.

I’m always happy to include parent and sibling images too.

And before you start thinking you won’t feel camera ready, please remember you’ve just had a baby. Nobody is expecting you to arrive looking like you’ve had eight hours sleep and a peaceful morning.

We can keep family photos simple, close and flattering. Baby in your arms, siblings close by, a few calm images of everyone together.

Those photos matter because they show how tiny your baby was, and how they fitted into your family right from the start.

Pets are family too, and I will absolutely stand by that.

They have their own personalities, their own little habits, and usually a very strong opinion about whether or not they’d like to cooperate.

Some pets pose beautifully. Some need treats. Some need encouragement. Some act like they’ve never heard their own name before in their life.

All completely normal and something I am very used to.

You don’t need a perfect reason to update your family photos.

The children have changed. You’ve probably changed. The family dynamic has shifted a little since the last time you had proper photographs taken.

That’s reason enough.

Family sessions don’t have to feel stiff or formal. They can be relaxed, warm and full of the little connections that actually feel like you.

Newborn sessions are best booked while you’re still pregnant, and I know that can feel a bit strange when you don’t actually know when baby will arrive.

We use your due date as a guide, with a 'floating appointment' then arrange the actual session once your little one is here.

Babies don't read diaries, sadly. Very inconsiderate of them.

The reason for booking ahead is simply so I can make sure there’s space for you during those early weeks, when babies are still tiny, sleepy and naturally curled up

If your baby is due in the next few months, now is a very good time to get in touch.

If you’re pregnant and thinking “I’m not sure I’d know what to do in front of a camera”, please don’t let that put you off.

Most people feel exactly the same before their maternity session. You don’t need to arrive knowing how to pose, what to do with your hands, or how to magically look relaxed the second a camera appears.

That’s my job.

I’ll guide you through the session, help with styling, show you what works best, and keep everything calm and easy. You can include your partner or children too, or keep it just for you.

Maternity sessions are best booked for around 28 to 34 weeks, when your bump is lovely and visible but you’re hopefully still feeling comfortable enough to enjoy it.
