The 2026 Cambrian Rally not only delivered brutal weather conditions in North Wales, but it also delivered a thrilling conclusion to the British Rally Championship season with down to the wire title fights to the very last stage. Meanwhile the Pirelli Welsh Rally Championship also crowned its 2026 drivers champ, for the sixth time and the BTRDA Rally reached it penultimate round.

“Lies, damned lies, and statistics”

The record may show that Osian Pryce and James Morgan won the British Rally Championship by ten points (EWRC), but in reality it was so much closer.

Honestly - I am so happy for Osh for he, if anyone, deserves a second title after all the near misses and struggles to put a program together in recent years.

I’m conflicted though; how good would it have been for the sport to have another McRae on the trophy and being half Scottish myself, mum growing up and grand parents living not 15 miles up the A706 east of Lanark… I def had a foot in both camps - win win if you like.

massive commiserations to Max McRae and Cameron Fair . What a season it’s been and how well you guys did to step up and push Osh and Mez for the title this year. It only seems like it was yesterday that you first drove a rally2 in BRC on this event in 2023.

Then there is Meirion Evans and Dale Furniss . So gutted you ended the season as you did but a massive step up year on year and that pace is growing and I have no doubt there’s more to come next year. The Ceredigion Sunday mixing times with the ERC boys was mighty impressive.

Wonderful performance and great to see James Williams back out again as well.

In any case, weather wise it was a tough day all round. An ambitious plan with remotes aprox 200m apart, one not working, 1 blowing over on brenig and then a short 20 car blast in Clocaenog to check out what we thought might be a potential jump before shooting back to the finish.

Decision made not to attempt SS9 stop as time was tight traffic coming opposite direction and roads very narrow. In hindsight I could have got there because of subsequent stages running late - I wasn’t to know - zero signal all weekend. Sooner I’m back on EE from Three the better and I might actually be able to take calls, send messages and work out what’s going on… 😂

HSCC Finals Silverstone for Motorsport Classics Media | Photography & Videography this weekend. Silverstone gets a lot of bad press these days, for photos, perhaps rightfully so, but also perhaps a necessary evil for obvious reasons.

The national circuit, however, is one very much in the image of that classic 4 corner slipstreamer of old and makes for some great racing. Some great evening light and a packed program also helps!

The Coupe D’or Oulton Park Circuit last month. Not had a lot of time to go through these until this weekend but here is a selection of my favs.

Was great to catch brabs David Brabham talking to Ian Titchmarsh about his time in sportscar racing and the Panoz and the weather made for some great photos.

A good selection but it’s wider than it was deep - still not happy with the consistency - specifically why my framing is awful at the moment 🤣. Subject seems to always be at the bottom of the frame too tight no room to breath… maybe it’s tracking rather than single spot is at fault? Not sure - still in a bit of a funk around the circuit stuff - but I’ll put that right next weekend hopefully.

The British Rally Championship reached it penultimate round at the Rali Ceredigion where the double header event provided a shake up in the overall championship standings. Delivering drama, heartbreak and triumph, this mega Asphalt event see's the BRC now heading for a final showdown.

Sutton-Images. The scenes from a great weekend Silverstone with the team from JEP covering Ashley Sutton ‘s record-breaking BTCC title win.

Still a lot to learn for me shooting at this level, both on track, off track and in the media centre for sure.

I felt my on track stuff wasn’t varied or creative enough but plenty of meat left on the bone for next time and I where I need to improve, particularly in throughput and turn around of selections and edits back in the media centre - but plenty of time to work on that, test some things out and find something that works for me. Will come with time for sure.

Back to the national circuit in 2 weeks for HSCC finals with Motorsport Classics Media | Photography & Videography with some ideas to get back to being more creative and not so wooden and plenty of opportunity to try some new editing workflow ideas.

Well that was hard work… no scruteneering for me the day before Britpart woodpecker Woodpeker stages due to a prearranged day at the test match.

…so it was straight to Radnor for me highly anticipating the return of the South Shropshire stages and associated mid September weather. We got one but not the other. Weather wise ‘the woody’ has had a tough run in the last few years and a couple of weeks ago was no different.
