A last minute trip to Severn Valley Railway today to test the 7m Pole. Few challenges with remotes not firing a couple of times but did test repeater mode on the Pocket Wizards for longer range out of sight triggering... unfortunatly the train was so slow it was still miles away when I stopped firing! Oh well...

Another mess about with my Milky Way images from last weekend.

With my star tracker I’ve never really managed to extract much benefit from stacking images, however I tried using Sequator to stack the decent non cloudy frames - 13 frames of 30s, f2.8 ISO1000. Really brings out a lot more detail - although I still need to learn how to best edit the Milky Way to extract more detail and more colour.

The foreground was shot in March - when I went out but didn’t get a great image of the Milky Way due to local light pollution on the horizon. I used PhotoPills to predict aprox where the Milky Way would have been at this time of year - so a little bit of artistic licence in there for that.

More wheel lifts than Ypres and more jumps than Finland? 🤣, well Ceredigion maybe, Grampian definitely!

BTCC at Knockhill Racing Circuit for Paul Marshall on Sunday after the Grampian.

Busy week sorting out a new job and the associated admin with umbrella companies etc (Plus Grampian) means a later than ideal post.

Another one where I felt a bit ‘meh’ coming away from the track - I’m sensing a re-occurring theme here… - especially seeing other people’s stuff - but it was my first time at Knockhill and I only had one day to learn the spots and get something I guess. Had I had time I’d have done a bit more research and asked a few more questions but Grampian was priority in the run up (Plus finding a new job out in the ‘real’ world 🤣).

I think I was more interested in shooting the bridges though tbh! In the last couple of years of my grand parents lives every trip up we’d go up to the North Queensferry hotel carpark and see what progress has been made on the new crossing - how time flies eh?

A last minute trip out to Clee Hill last night. Despite buying my star tracker in 2021 opportunities to get out are so limited and so dependent on conditions. Living in North Birmingham (Sutton Coldfield), dark skies are miles away in any direction…

I wanted to go out on Thursday but it was just prohibitively hot so when skies cleared last night I headed out on the hour-and-half drive to Clee hill.

Astro is a science - it’s all about timing (of day, of month, year, of moon phase), weather (cloud cover), light polution and location and I’m always learning due to the lack of opportunity to regularly do it.

Pleased how these turned out given some schoolboy errors - forgetting to put a tripod mount on my R5 (took battery grip off), not able to get tripod mount off R6 to use (no Alan key), remote timer only compatible with R5, and a stuck CPL on the 24-70 meaning I lost 2 stops every time I used it… anyway it turned out ok

A Saturday Mix. Didn't really maximise the morning. I really wanted to walk all the way up the hill to the fresh air right hander on SS3 Clatterin Kist but priority was to get into SS8. So a few fairly basic bits of the top boys and a dodgy walk out through the trees it was.

Good Job I did really, as I wasn't allowed upto the stop on SS8 via the finish exit.... really frustrating if I am honest - but what can you do? I'd made sure I'd given myself enough time to get in and do the 40 minute walk without having any "hassle" from the safety cars (as seemed to be a bit of a theme this week...). That buffer (luckily) allowed me to drive through the start, park at the stop and do the 40 minutes walk with enough time to set up my remotes etc. I Was then moved back by the 00 zero and threatened with AI cameras (I thought the Saftey delegate had the final say?!) which significantly compromised my hand held camera angle - still got some good stuff i think, but not perfect as a result.

Then mad dash via a few cars on the road section back to do the finish

An August Friday in Aberdeenshire.

Scruteneering, service, start and SS2.

I haven't been overly happy with my "stuff" of late but felt I had a really good weekend here. Could still do with improving the variety and creativity of the off stage stuff. Sometimes you struggle for inspiration and end up over thinking it and not doing anything....

I Saw John Jackson Photography's stuff from outside the service park and kicking myself - I used to do that all the time - much better idea than aimless wondering round a dead service park with too many people to talk to 🤣 I need to remember to do stuff like that again.

A quick stop Severn Valley Railway on my way between some Hills Ford stages recce on Sunday.

Remotes earning their keep again including possibly my favourite lens the Laowa by Venus Optics 12mm giving a stunning perspective from low down.

Planned to see a couple of runs but some delays (and a fire it seems) meant I didn’t really have time for the second@one

The revolution stuff prompted me to sort out a few of these. BTCC Snetterton Circuit a month or so ago.

Honestly and full disclosure - I really felt it was my best weekend. A new editing process, not knowing modern BTCC or snetterton’s longer circuit didn’t help but that’s no excuse - I felt I was second guessing myself, over thinking and not doing things naturally, so all in all I wasn’t overly happy with what I produced - hence the delay in posting!!! Here are a few I was ‘remotely’ happy with though 🤣

Having said that - a great learning experience and plenty to build on and improve on for the future. Great working with a fantastic team and both new and old friends.
