As we reach the end of term, it feels like a good time to stop for a moment and reflect.
This term has seen the start of our new photography cohorts, continued work with our FMP learners, and some really valuable one-to-one time too.
There have been cameras to learn, settings to figure out, ideas to explore and photographs to make — but, as always, the photography has only been part of the story.
I’ve watched confidence grow, conversations begin, ideas become clearer and individual voices start to come through in the work.
For some, the camera gives them a way to communicate when words don’t always come easily. For others, it’s been about discovering what they want to say, developing independence, or simply having a space where they can explore without the pressure of having to get everything “right”.
Our FMP learners are now bringing together their own ideas, experiences and ways of seeing as they work towards their exhibition with Harwich Arts & Heritage Centre.
There is lots happening behind the scenes at the moment, and we’ll be revealing more details about the FMP exhibition and public viewing in early November.
The new cohorts are already beginning to find their feet and develop their own creative direction, while the one-to-one sessions have reminded me again how important it is to have time to work at an individual pace — to talk, experiment, build skills and follow the interests of the person in front of me.
So, as we take our end-of-term break, I’m feeling very proud of what is beginning to grow.
Not just photographs.
Confidence.
Connection.
Curiosity.
A sense of belonging.
And, most importantly, individual voices.
Thank you to every learner and family who has trusted me and RootsShoots to be part of that journey.
Time now to reflect, reset, and come back ready for the next chapter.
