With the warm weather finally here, I’ve been out and about on my mobile visits today and honestly… I’m shocked by how many dogs I’ve seen being walked in the middle of the day in this heat. ☀️🐶

Please remember — heatstroke can happen to ANY dog, not just flat-faced breeds.

Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds such as French Bulldogs, Pugs, Bulldogs and Shih Tzus are especially vulnerable because they struggle to regulate their body temperature, but any dog can overheat in these temperatures.

Please also NEVER leave dogs in hot cars — not even for “just 5 minutes.” Cars heat up dangerously fast and it can be fatal.

A few simple things can make a huge difference:
💧 Always carry extra water
🌳 Stick to shaded areas
🚶 Walk early morning or later in the evening
🚗 Use cooling mats or cooling blankets for longer car journeys
🐾 Check pavements before walks
🏡 Sometimes the safest option is to skip the walk altogether

Signs of heatstroke include:
⚠️ Excessive panting
⚠️ Drooling
⚠️ Bright red gums
⚠️ Weakness or collapse
⚠️ Vomiting or diarrhoea

No walk is worth risking your dog’s life. ❤️

Stay safe, keep them cool, and if you’re ever unsure or need advice contact your local vet

It’s Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month 💚🐾

I’ve now been in the veterinary industry for almost 6 years, and 3 of those were spent studying and training to become a veterinary nurse. Last year, I proudly qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse — something I worked incredibly hard to achieve.

Veterinary nursing is so much more than people often realise. We’re here for your pets through every stage of their lives — from supporting them during procedures, monitoring anaesthesia, providing nursing care, to offering advice, reassurance, and a comforting presence when it matters most.

That’s why I created Izzy Abbotts Mobile Vet Nursing to provide a more personal, 1-to-1 service in the comfort of your pet’s own home. For many animals, this means less stress, more calm, and care tailored entirely to them.

I’m also lucky to work with a wide range of species — from large/ farm animals to all types of companion animals. No two days are ever the same, and I love being able to adapt my care to suit each individual patient and their needs.

This month is all about raising awareness of the veterinary nursing role and the dedication, skill, and compassion it involves. I’m so proud to be part of this profession and to support both pets and their owners in a way that truly makes a difference.

Thank you to all my clients for trusting me with your beloved animals 💚
