There are some weddings where, by the end of the day, it feels like you've known the couple for much longer than you actually have.

Eoin and Chantal's wedding at Springkell House | Scottish Wedding Venue was one of those.

Coming over from Canada, with Irish and Canadian roots, they chose Scotland as the place where friends and family could come together somewhere beautiful. And what a choice. Springkell is one of my favourite places to photograph — a 300-year-old house, gardens, countryside and all the wonderful slightly eccentric grandeur that makes a Scottish wedding feel like a Scottish wedding.

But it was the people that made this one.

It was ridiculously good fun, incredibly warm, and full of that lovely combination of laughter, affection and genuine friendship. The sort of wedding where you find yourself staying a little longer than you need to because you're having such a good time.

Eoin and Chantal — I absolutely loved being part of this. Thank you for making me feel so welcome, and congratulations to you both. ❤️

This is turning out to be a year of incredible weddings, and very kind reviews! Today I have received one from American couple Alyssa and Matt who asked me to travel over to Ireland tp photograph their super-sunny wedding at the magestic Waterford Castle.

July was a month of big weddings. I do far fewer big ones compared to tiny wee elopements these days, and for some reason they almost all came within the same month. It was tiring, but great fun too!

Eoin and Chantal travelled from their home country of Canada to one of my favourite venues - Springkell down in the Scottish Borders.

I won't bore you with descriptions of the wonderful gardens and large light-filled rooms as you've probably read all about them here many times before. Instead I have whittled down a selection, with quite a lot of difficulty, of 45 or so of my favourite images from the day that tell the story better than my words.

At an intimate elopement it could be the mountains and trees, and at an bigger day, such as Chantal and Eoin's Springkell House | Scottish Wedding Venue wedding, it can include all those things you spent so long designing and organising.

Back in March I had a wonderful day photographing Kersha and Kieran's wedding on the shores of Loch Garten, in the Cairngorms National Park. A couple of days ago they left me my 66th 5-star Google review and it is such a lovely note that I actually had tears in my eyes when I read it.

"Trevor photographed our wedding celebrations and we couldn’t be more pleased with his service, it was truly excellent!

From the point of enquiring about our proposed wedding ideas, Trevor became an invaluable part of making our wedding as special as it was.

Trevor discussed our ideas with us and used his vast knowledge of the Scottish Highlands and elopements / weddings to help guide us in our wedding planning journey. We had a broad idea - get married in the Scottish Highlands with our baby and our Labrador Archer, surrounded by our family and friends.

Trevor helped us in working out how to have a wedding logistically that would accommodate our dog and baby as well as our friends. He also had some great advice around weather, seasonal considerations (snow?midges?), time of day for the ceremony based on the best lighting in the highlands, having a tartan wool shawl for our outdoor ceremony (this was very practical in late March but also looked beautiful in our pictures).

We found the perfect location in the Cairngorms and had our family and friends join us for a week of celebrations, and made sure that our lodge dreamy enough to double as a potential wedding venue should the Scottish weather cause a last minute change of plans. We picked Loch Garten for our wedding ceremony and found the perfect spot based on recommendations from Trevor for incredible views whilst also considering practical stuff like parking, walking, accessibility for our family and babies etc. Trevor did all of the thinking for us and should probably add ‘wedding co-ordinator and planner’ alongside photographer!

In the lead up to our wedding day whilst enjoying the cairngorms for pre-wedding celebrations, we had every season of weather every hour. Lots of snow, sun, rain, hail, more sun. But our wedding day provided beautiful sun, blue skies and snow capped mountains.

We had the most incredible day and Trevor was able to capture it all for us. We have the most beautiful pictures of all of our friends and family and our dogs Archer and Floss, that we will cherish forever.

Trevor photographed our wedding ceremony, our family photos, and took us off for some time to enjoy being newlywed by ourselves, all whilst getting beautiful pictures and we barely knew Trevor was there!

Trevor joined us again after our ceremony to capture the moments of fun, enjoying our wedding cakes and a ch*****ne toast.

We went to Trevor with an idea of our dream wedding and Trevor helped us make it happen. We had the most incredible wedding day and the photographs capture exactly how special it felt.

A few weeks ago I had the amazing chance to travel to Waterford Castle Hotel & Golf Resort , in the south of Ireland, to photograph the incredible wedding of Alyssa and Matt. And what an amazing day it was!

The sun shone for the entire trip (the Stena ferry to Belfast was like being on a Caribbean cruise) and getting to work in such an incredible venue, with such a lovely bunch of folk, was simply wonderful.

I do really love my little mountain elopements, but the chance to get back to my roots (I haven't always focussed on elopements) and work through this full-size wedding extravaganza is definitely going to be a highlight of my year and I am very grateful to Alyssa and Matt for choosing me to be one of their team of creatives.

Sometimes, especially here in Scotland, the weather doesn't deliver the sunshine and fluffy clouds people dream of for their wedding day. Fortunately, Scotland also has the sort of landscape that looks beautiful in almost any weather — all you need is the willingness to step outside and embrace whatever the day brings.

When I had my usual video chat with Mel and Jed a week before their wedding, I confidently assured them it probably wouldn't rain much. It was the day before the first day of summer after all — how bad could it be? As it turned out, quite bad.

As I was working alongside humanist celebrant Paula I knew we could be very flexible with our timings so we sat in their beautiful cottage looking longingly out to sea for a speck of blue sky, waiting for a break in the drizzle so that we could nip down to the nearby beach in Arisaig for their ceremony. Eventually we conceded defeat and headed for the beach with their basket of wedding cake carefully covered in a woollen blanket. In many ways, these are often my favourite moments to photograph — when everyone stops worrying about the weather and simply gets on with enjoying the day.

The weather gods were on our side in the end. While it rained through the first part of the ceremony, by the time Mel and Jed exchanged their vows and took part in their handfasting they were able to fold away the umbrella and enjoy the dry(er) conditions. Afterwards there was time for slightly woolly cake, a wander amongst the wild flowers and a handful of photographs before the mist rolled back in and we retreated to the warmth of the lodge.

Looking through the photographs afterwards, it's hard to imagine the weather any other way. The low cloud, the empty beach and the soft light all felt perfectly suited to a quiet, intimate Arisaig elopement.

There is an often overlooked part of Scotland that definitely one of the most romantic and wild places to say your wedding vows — Arisaig. Perfectly suited to intimate elopements there are countless little coves and dunes to wonder through. Beautiful little cottages to use as a base to explore this wonderful area and, perhaps best of all, it's only an hour from Fort William, and it's even accessible by train!

I always love it when couples remember that there are no rules on a wedding day. Erin and Craig had a small family wedding in the Cairngorms and, although they exchanged their vows in front of their closest family and friends during the ceremony, they also wanted the chance to share something more personal with one another.

Later that day, after we had finished exploring the forests around Loch an Eilein for photographs, they found a quiet spot amongst the trees and read their private vows together. There was nobody else there to hear them, and even I stayed well back so as not to intrude.

It was a simple moment, but a wonderfully personal one, and a lovely reminder that your wedding day can be shaped around the things that matter most to you.
