The Museum of Carpet, Kidderminster is run by volunteers, open two days a week Tuesday's and Saturday's, 10am to 2pm. They almost closed down for good at the end of 2025, but reopened. They rely on voluntary donations, but the museum is free to enter. Was several rooms with exhibits and machines that made carpets, plus an art gallery at the rear.

A visit on a Saturday afternoon, around an hour before closing. The museum is on Green Street, with a modern Morrisons supermarket built behind.

The Chiltern Railways Explorer trains with Class 68 and Mark 5A coaches seen at the Stourbridge Junction sidings. The West Midlands Railway Class 172 windows are still dirty to get photos or videos out of them until they are cleaned and given the new orange liveries. West Bromwich Albion fans were on the train from Stourbridge Junction to The Hawthorns. I was heading back to Birmingham from Kidderminster.

Trains passing Marston Green Station platform 1 on the August Bank Holiday Monday.

Avanti West Coast London Northwestern Railway and Transport for Wales Trafnidiaeth Cymru (probably calling at Birmingham International next, and at least two of them going to London Euston).

the arrival of my train to Birmingham New Street then passing Cadbury World and the Bournville sign. I think it was getting busier once it stopped at Selly Oak.

Did you know of two other bronze bull sculptures hidden gems in Birmingham?

No? Ok we'll tell you.

The first secret bull is at Amazon Logistics DBI2 in Tyseley, near Battery Way.

The second bull is more visible it's outside Farros at the corner of Stratford Road and Warwick Road, Sparkhill.

And you know of the other ones, not so hidden.

The Guardian (Bullring Birmingham bull) and Ozzy the Bull in Birmingham New Street Station.

Some changes at Birmingham Botanical Gardens between 2017 and 2026.

The wooden decking thing has lost the steps and will soon be removed.

The Lawn Aviary of 1996-2024 is completely gone now a Stretch Tent as of 2026. The Rose Garden in front of it is still there.

It's gone! Birmingham Botanical Gardens removed the birds several years ago. The Lawn Aviary next to the Rose Garden, I last saw in April 2024. As of August 2026 a temporary stretch tent on the same site! Also some of the birds I was able to photograph between 2017 and 2019.

Three Men in a Boat clock at Saddlers Shopping Centre, Walsall

While part of the shopping centre is closed for redevelopment near Walsall Station, the ground floor has already been done and this sculpture was returned.

Three Men in a Boat mechanical clock and automaton returned to the Saddlers Shopping Centre in Walsall town centre on 4th December 2025. Originally installed in 1990 and later stored due to faults, the restored feature honours Walsall-born author Jerome K. Jerome and rows on the hour.

Celebrates Jerome K. Jerome, author of the 1889 classic comic novel [Three Men in a Boat]. Features an upper clock with three Edwardian figures in a boat surrounded by ducks. The mechanical characters come to life and row their oars on each hour. Restored and reinstalled in the newly refurbished Bradford Mall area as part of the town's regeneration.

The original designer and manufacturer of the Three Men in a Boat clock and automaton is Smith of Derby, a world-renowned British clockmaking firm operating since 1856.The company originally built and installed the mechanical piece in 1990, and Walsall Council commissioned the exact same clockmakers to meticulously restore the wooden figures, mechanisms, and hand-painted details for its grand return.
