Sure, the clothes and the flowers are lovely, but they're not the BEST bits of a wedding.

I never take for granted getting to be a part of so many weddings - wedding photography is absolutely my dream job, and here are just a few of the reasons why. 🥰

How about you sneak off on your tenth anniversary? Leave the kids with a sitter, claim to be heading to another town for dinner... and go and get married instead?

That's exactly what K&A did!

They (very quickly!) planned a beautiful wee ceremony at Stonehaven registry office. I agreed to act as a witness and brought Lynn Esslemont along to be join me.

And then we spent an hour sneaking around Stonehaven Harbour, dodging K's workmate who was picnicking on the sand, scurrying past the pub where her family were having lunch, and pausing whenever a bench or a puddle or a painted wall caught our eye.

It was a whole lot of fun - and resulted in a whole lot of photos!

And then I left them to tell their loved ones all the news. 😍

A few wee peeks at J&R's recent Marischal College wedding (more to follow soon - it was beautiful 😍).

Most of my couples tell me they're prepared for the Aberdeen weather - it doesn't often rain (unlike today) but it IS usually pretty grey. But when the sun bursts through the clouds - even if it's only for a few moments - we get to do something like THIS.

Big thanks to the very little kids who helped me take the photos by the fountains. I think we can all agree, they've done a brilliant job. 👏🏻

Surprise celebrity guests at H&A's Palm Court wedding reception in Aberdeen.

The couple had tied the knot a few days earlier at Marischal College, with group and couple photos at Slains Aberdeen (the location of their first date 💕).

Alas, this is the last wee batch of their wedding photos - it was so much fun celebrating with them, I'm not quite ready to let them go.

Honestly, I'm mostly being blown away by the gorgeous dress and COWBOY BOOTS Saturday's bride wore (no, I can't show you yet) - truly a masterclass is looking both comfortable and AMAZING. 🤩

I don't shout about this enough, but sometimes, in amongst all of the gorgeous weddings, I photograph families, too.

Two kids, two parents, two grandparents, and the one hour of nonsense we can squeeze in between snack breaks? Family sessions are a gloriously unpredictable sixty minutes of seeing what happens when we let the kids run wild, but they're always fun and they always result in photos you'll want to frame.

Why should my folder full of dodgy phone photos convince you to book me as your wedding photographer?

Because we all take bad quality pictures when we're not really focused on the photography. When we're busy chatting. When we want to remember something but aren't really thinking about camera angles. When our heads are somewhere else.

And that's what (most) friends and family do at weddings.

They take photos because the moment matters to them - really, really matters to them. They may even have a great quality camera on their phone. But they're focusing on having fun, not on finding the prettiest lighting.

Whereas a professional wedding photographer? We have the eye-wateringly expensive camera equipment, but - more importantly - we also have an eye for a good angle, a dramatic shadow, a fleeting moment, the full story.

A fully focused wedding photographer versus your best mate with the latest iPhone? Tell them to put their screens away and celebrate; when it comes to the photos, I've got this. 👌🏻

Just a few details from S&S's Marischal College wedding. 🥰

With just two family members present, S&S still managed to fill their ceremony with meaning and personality.

From their beautiful, personal vows to S's black dress, a hand fasting ceremony to their entirely unique little ring bearer, everything about their wedding was perfectly them.

S&S have opted to keep the majority of their photos private, but these pictures are enough to illustrate just how much character can be brought to even the tiniest registry office wedding - and, if you need a photographer to be there on the day, I'm over here waving my hands.

I met someone today (hi, Charlotte!) who told me she got a surprise when she first found my Instagram.

Back in March, she was at when she spotted a bride with the most incredible tiara and a baby strapped to her in a rainbow coloured sling.

And then... there she was! On my grid! Looking every bit as incredible! (Isn't she stunning?)

One of the things I LOVE about my job is walking around with newly married couples, watching the delight on complete strangers' faces when they spot them - how excitedly they call out their congratulations; little kids gawp at the fancy dresses; tourists ask for photos of anyone in a kilt.

But to be a newlywed that somebody still recognises, weeks later, in a random Instagram post? That takes something special.

If you're tempted by an incredible tiara (or any other outfit choice which feels special to YOU), this is your sign to wear it.
