Nathan: One of the last few days of the Font trip saw us meet up with an old friend who took some great shots of this cool boulder I’d not tried before. Had to really fight on the mantle!
.
Andy: When I heard that Nathan was in the forest smashing his way through a list of 8a classics, I had to meet up and grab some photos. We met for the first time back in Magic Wood almost ten years ago, where Stefan, our rescue dog, tried to bite him and ended up putting a hole in his trousers. This time, Stefan was wearing his muzzle...

I turned 45 on Friday and figured it would be fun to attempt my first ever self portraits not taken on a phone. And if I look serious it’s because I’m concentrating really hard, shifting backwards and forwards to try and get something that is vaguely in focus. 🤪 swipe to see my janky set up.

I’m slowly getting the hang of Polaroid transfers. The next step is to use my Polaroid Now camera to take photos that aren’t massively under or over exposed. The latitude of the film stock is so insanely narrow that it really doesn’t lend itself to bright conditions because there’s too much contrast, and nor does it work well in dull conditions because there’s not enough light. 😆 Doesn’t help that the light meter is all over the shop.

I’ve always been fascinated by the edges of forests — places where you’re confronted by the darkness and chaos of the trees, both ominous and alluring. Maybe that’s what the Polaroids will be. I foresee a lot of standing in fields.

(Top tip. If you attempt a Polaroid transfer, trim and peel the photo as soon as possible once the image has formed. If you wait a day, it won’t peel cleanly!)
