It takes patience to build a good fire. Outdoorsman Luke Rodrigues strikes a knife spine on a ferrocerium (ferro) rod to produce sparks and set tinder ablaze. I’ve seen him do it in the rain on the damp west coast many times. The mechanism is reminiscent of flint, but with hotter sparks making it much more reliable. 🔥
