Meet Steven. Steven Qiao.
Steven works part time as a tailor and has a love for old school style - for preserving some of the best from eras past. One of the style icons he admires most is Fred Astaire.
Steven is another ultra stylish person - one of many - that I met in the Parkdale area this year. Thank you Parkdale, and thank you Steven. Keep inspiring many with your classic fashion flair.

Stand with cyclists.
Ride with them too.

I’m feeling especially for cyclists of Toronto these days. Days when a provincial leader feels it is okay to override the will of a city. A city that invested millions in safe cycling infrastructure - small steps that incrementally but meaningfully moved Toronto in the direction that cities all over the world are heading. Safe cycling routes are essential to the future of any modern city. Any retreat from this won’t last long. Safe dedicated bike lanes will be back. It is just a matter of time.

There’s too much going on here to say nothing.

The statement appeared to be about a building at Queen and Noble St, just west of Dufferin, that was about to be

The building provided meagre shelter for some local unhoused individuals, who would sit right where this message was written, beneath a small awning alongside this wall. When progress comes some people are often displaced in the process. Someone had to make a statement. Voices are made to be used.

Meet Pema.

I’ve been spending more time in Parkdale over the past year or more. I’ve met a number of fashionable people during my walks through the neighbourhood. Pema immediately caught my eye with his suave style. I’m no fashion maven, but it’s clear he knows how to put together a great look. Thanks for chatting and letting me take your photo Pema! Keep on!

Funny enough I met Pema on the same day that I met Corey of The Bad Angel - another person with great style! (See my earlier post from a month or two ago.) There’s some sharp fashion sense to be found in Toronto’s west side.

Congratulations to BOOK CITY on their 50th anniversary! Independent book stores offer so much to a community. The level of service, the care in curating and displaying unique books, and the overall atmosphere - these are just some of the reasons why I love visiting Book City. You might say the experience is night and day (see above images 😉) compared to a big box store. 😊

Red and Ready

An early morning scene on Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada, made in the spring of 2025. Suzi and I were visiting for our 25th anniversary, and were thrilled that we arrived on the first day of canoe rentals for the year.

(This title might also be a fair description of how many Canadians are feeling with all the nonsense being slung their way.)

I will be showing a print of this image at the upcoming Danforth East Arts Fair Danforth East Arts Fair, happening Sept 19-20 at East Lynn Park. It’s my favourite arts event of the year, one I’ve been participating in since 2012. Please stop by and say hi!

Spin Cycle

This September I celebrate 15 years of intentional work as a photographer. I feel very thankful for the journey and for everyone who has stuck with me and supported me along the way. I aim to keep expanding what I create as I move forward. This post is one small way of doing so.
