Being a photographer can feel isolating.

It’s hard to find someone else who wants to get up at 5am before the sunrise. To lug a camera, 2 lenses and a tripod up a trail by headlamp to photograph the stars from a lookout. Who stops every 6 feet because there’s something else to make a picture of.

At Spark, we’re your people. Finally.

We only do a couple of these a year (one in the spring, one in the fall).

You've been on the wrong trips.

The ones where someone hands you an itinerary and the bus leaves at 2:15 whether you're ready or not. The ones where your partner or your friend is standing two steps behind you, arms crossed, waiting while you try to get the shot. Or worse — they're scrolling their phone while you're still deciding if the light is right, because the whole group already moved on without you.

And so you pack your camera away. Again.

And you tell yourself you'll get more time at the next stop.

You don't.

We've all done it. Put everyone else's pace ahead of the one thing we actually came to do. Because our cameras feel like an inconvenience... to everyone but us.

The Yukon Arctic Photography Tour isn't that trip.

Ansel Adams spent more time in the darkroom than behind the lens. What he did in the dark is exactly what Lightroom does today.

Our cameras are NOT humans. They can't possibly capture the exact colour, perspective, and dimensions of what our eyes see. And WHO SAID OUR CAMERAS HAD TO?

A photo is the canvas. Editing is the paint.

By the end of a workshop with us, you'll be saying "you've taught me to break the rules, and that excites me!"

Stop apologizing for having a vision.

We'd love to hear if you thought editing was/is cheating and why. Let's break that down together.

We're back from our photography retreat focusing on CREATIVITY from the long weekend!

This retreat was for intermediate and advanced photographers ready to reconnect or tap into their creative vision. All about creativity, less about photography fundamentals (what aperture, ISO, and shutter speed do).

We got up with the sunrise, crawled around on the forest floor, paddled on mirror-like water conditions, and transformed our personal growth as photographers.

We're excited to be offering a similar creative workshop this fall (October 16-18th) in Frontenac. Co-facilitated with for a weekend of forest therapy and photography!
