🏚️ This abandoned country estate is packed with 1960s & 70s character!

Recently, Zenning with Zay and I explored this massive country estate, and there was so much to see inside.

A wood-panelled mid-century sunroom, a huge pink living room, a psychedelic yellow bedroom with s**g carpet, and a nearly intact Harvest Gold kitchen are just some of the highlights.

There were also clothes still hanging in an upstairs wardrobe, vintage lamps throughout the house, and plenty of smaller details that made you wonder about the people who once lived here.

Unfortunately, decades of neglect have taken a serious toll. Water damage has destroyed ceilings throughout the house, and parts of the flooring have completely collapsed.

I took 62 photos here, so there’s a LOT more to see. I’ll be sharing the full collection and a longer write-up on the blog.

🏚️ This place is slowly being swallowed up by time and nature.

Inside, the damage is pretty incredible. Sections of the ceiling have collapsed, exposing the old timber framing, while faded 1970s wallpaper peels from the walls. An old TV sits shattered in the corner, surrounded by broken glass and debris.

Some of the personal belongings are still sitting exactly where they were left, including an old upright piano, vintage clown masks, a stuffed monkey and even a water-damaged book about Napoleon.

Upstairs, the water damage gets even worse, with sagging ceilings and stained mattresses in the attic bedrooms. Even the retro pink bathroom is starting to crumble away.

Outside, the summer growth has nearly hidden the property completely. Buried in the weeds are several old vehicles, including a vintage Ford farm truck that's now covered in rust, lichen and grass.

🏚️ Ontario Gothic Revival Farmhouse | Built c. 1875–1890

This old farmhouse is a great example of Gothic Revival architecture, with its distinctive central gable, pointed attic window, red brick construction and large covered porch — all features commonly seen on Ontario farmhouses from the late 1800s.

Inside, you can see how the house changed over the decades. The clawfoot tub and old water heater likely date to an early plumbing upgrade, while the blue and white kitchen looks like a classic 1950s/60s renovation. Even the layers of turquoise paint peeling from the plaster give us a glimpse into the home's later years.

A couple of years ago, Zenning with Zay and I stopped at this abandoned farmhouse, and it immediately seemed familiar. I remembered certain features, but I couldn’t remember when I had first visited.

After digging through my archives, I finally found the original photos—my first visit was October 2015!

Fast forward to 2023, and I was pretty disappointed to see how much the place had deteriorated. The vandalism had gotten significantly worse, and I didn’t even bother taking out my camera. I just grabbed some cell phone pics.

Now that I’ve found those original photos, I can show you 8 years of change at this farmhouse.

🏚️ This old farmhouse has been sitting abandoned for decades, and the inside still tells the story of the people who lived here.

The house appears to date back to the 1920s–40s, but most of what remains inside reflects the 1960s and 1970s.

The orange kitchen, dark wood cabinets, old appliances and red bedroom still look straight out of another era. Upstairs, things get even more interesting with yellow-and-black geometric wallpaper, vintage books and magazines, and a wall collage featuring a large peace sign and other mid-century imagery.

One of the books dates to 1977, giving us a pretty good indication that the house wasn't abandoned before then.

Sadly, decades of roof leaks have taken a huge toll. The upstairs ceilings have collapsed in places, plaster and insulation cover the floors, and even the kitchen's beadboard ceiling is slowly falling apart.

It's amazing how much of the home's personality is still visible despite all the damage.

🏡 Inside an Abandoned Mid-Century Ranch

This one has such a classic Ontario ranch-bungalow feel to it. From the outside, it’s a simple single-story red-brick home with a low roofline, attached two-car garage, mature trees and a large weathered deck wrapping around the back.

Inside, there’s a really interesting mix of styles and colours that feels very much like a home that was lived in for decades. The living room has deep beige s**g carpeting, a wood-mantel fireplace and vintage botanical wallpaper, while the kitchen still has the original honey-oak cabinets, brass hardware and peninsula bar.

The hallway is painted a soft pink/mauve, one bedroom is bright yellow with purple curtains, and there’s even a hobby/workshop room with a pegboard and exposed utility piping.

But the basement was probably my favourite part. It has dark wood-panelled walls, retro flooring and a built-in walk-up wet bar—exactly the kind of basement you could imagine being the centre of family gatherings years ago. Unfortunately, parts of the ceiling have deteriorated enough to expose the floor joists and plumbing above.

Outside, the property has been heavily overgrown, with cracked asphalt, long grass and mature trees starting to take over the yard.

There’s something about these older ranch homes that really makes me curious about the people who lived in them.
