Way back at the beginning of 2017, RiddimRyder Photography and I explored this very old abandoned house in Southwestern Ontario.

Last week, I came across a recent set of real estate photos and saw what it looks like now, almost 10 years later.

I messaged Riddim and said that we should do a joint post, lining up our photos with the new photos.

Then & Now: This House in 2017 vs. 2025 🏚️

Back in 2017, Freaktography and I explored this incredible old house, and it was a proper time capsule! The rooms were still filled with furniture, vintage appliances, retro wallpaper and personal belongings. That blue tufted headboard was one of those details that really stood out.

Fast forward to 2025, and the house hit the real estate market. The difference is pretty incredible.

The contents are all gone, revealing the original hardwood floors, but unfortunately, the house itself has taken a beating. Several plaster ceilings have collapsed, exposing the beams above. It's a good reminder of just how quickly an old house can deteriorate without heat and regular maintenance. Somehow, the original curtains and mirrors are still hanging on!

It's always interesting to compare photos from different years, especially when you can see just how much has changed in between.

What do you prefer: seeing a house like this full of its original contents, or seeing it cleaned out so you can appreciate the original floors and features?

🏚️ The Abandoned Broderick Hotel – Nova Scotia

This old hotel near Five Islands, Nova Scotia, was a real piece of local history. Dating back to at least the early 1900s, the Broderick Hotel even appeared on a postcard from 1906!

Zenning with Zay & I photographed the once-grand building as decades of neglect took their toll. Its distinctive mansard roof, peeling yellow siding and overgrown grounds made it a fascinating subject.

There was a way inside, but the building was in such dangerous condition that venturing any further wasn't worth the risk. Sometimes, the safest way to explore is to appreciate a place from the outside.

Sadly, the Broderick Hotel has since been demolished. These photos are now a record of a building that's no longer there.

Inside Ontario’s LARGEST Abandoned Garden Center (Humber Nurseries)

A few years back Zenning with Zay & I managed to explore the massive, historic Humber Nurseries on Highway 50 in Brampton, Ontario right after it was left abandoned. Walking through what used to be Ontario's largest all-season garden center—spanning over 24 acres and 70 empty greenhouses—felt completely surreal.

In this video, we take a look inside the abandoned retail store, the empty growing fields, and what remains of a 71-year-old plant empire before it was permanently changed.

🏡 A 1970s TIME CAPSULE WITH A “LOVE / FEAR” SWITCH! 🍊

This abandoned bungalow is packed with some of the most distinctive 1970s design I've come across, and the basement bar alone is worth a closer look!

From the outside, the overgrown grounds, curved cobblestone driveway and detached garage hint at a property that was once something special. Step inside, and the retro details really start to shine.

The main living room features a massive fieldstone fireplace, original wood accents and a vintage brass starburst clock. The kitchen has mirrored backsplashes and a curved ceiling that looks straight out of a retro diner.

But the bathrooms? That's where the 1970s colours really come alive! Think robin's egg blue fixtures, peach tiles, orange floral wallpaper and a bright green door. You certainly wouldn't call it boring! 😂

Downstairs, there's a custom bar with orange quilted padding, backlit panels filled with pressed foliage, colourful geometric pendant lights and another massive stone fireplace. It must have been quite the spot for entertaining guests back in the day.

And then there's one little detail that raises a question of its own: a switch labelled “LOVE” and “FEAR” right at the kitchen entrance. What was that all about?

It's amazing to see so many original features still in place, even as the property slowly succumbs to the overgrown grounds and the basement ceiling begins to deteriorate.
