I’ve been exploring a little closer to home lately, and it’s reminded me that adventure doesn’t have to mean a plane ticket.

Sometimes all you need is a good trail, a friend to share it with, and a willingness to see what’s around the next corner.

The caves, the trees, the rushing water... they’re all part of the adventure. The photos are a bonus. The memories are what last.

We attended a wedding this past weekend and I used the moment of everyone being dressed up and in the same location to play around get family photos. The most important ones of course are with the office manager 🐶 she has hit the glorious age of 14. 🐾🐾🐾. Piper was the goodest girl and tolerated the interruption of squirrel patrol.

Never miss a chance to get those photos in! I set up my tripod and used my delay timer. Cameras/smartphones they all have them!

The light can completely change your photo—even if your camera settings stay exactly the same.

☀️ Front light = bright and even

☀️ Side light = depth and texture

☀️ Back light = mood and glow

The next time you’re taking photos, don’t just stand in one spot. Walk around your subject and see how the light changes.

Sometimes the biggest improvement is simply changing your position.

One scene. Two different stories.

Landscape captures more of the surroundings and helps set the scene.

Vertical emphasizes height and creates a stronger sense of scale.

Neither is the “correct” choice—they simply tell different stories.

My advice? If you’re not sure... take the photo both ways.
