That moment when everything else pauses.

Hayley, fully dressed, the whole day about to begin, and she stops to give the woman who raised her something that says thank you in a way words never quite could.

I will chase these moments every single time. Not because they are on the shot list but because they are the ones that make the whole day mean something.

The tears that were not planned. The hug that lasted a little longer. The look between a mother and her daughter that holds a whole lifetime in it.

This is why your getting ready morning matters so much. Not just for the pretty details, although we absolutely love those too. But for the quiet, unrepeatable moments that happen when the people who love each other most are all together in one room.

No aisle. No timeline. Just the wind, the two of you, and whatever you decide to say to each other up there.

I think what surprises people about a day like this is how quiet it is. There is no one to perform for and nobody waiting on you.

You end up saying the thing you actually meant instead of the thing you rehearsed, and then you just stand there for a while, because there is nowhere else you need to be.

I have photographed big weddings I loved every minute of. But there is something about two people on a mountain that I have never quite got over.

Tag someone who would do this in a heartbeat.

If you cannot find me during your ceremony, that is completely on purpose.

I am usually at the back, or off to one side, or crouched somewhere slightly undignified. Not hiding exactly. Just trying very hard to stop being a person in the room.

Because the second people remember there is a photographer, something changes. Shoulders go back, someone checks their face, and the moment you actually wanted goes half a step formal.

So I go quiet. I read the room, I watch for the one who is about to cry, and I stay out of it. The photos you will love most are the ones nobody performed for.

Your future self is begging you not to skip this.

I’ve had couples get swept up in speeches, lose track of time, or simply decide in the moment that they just did not feel like stepping away for sunset photos.

I understand that the day has been big and you just want to relax in the moment you’re in but I will always, gently, remind you that this is a moment you will love from your day and here’s why…

Sunset on your wedding day is not just a photo opportunity. It is fifteen minutes of stillness in the middle of the most overwhelming day of your life. The noise quiets down, the light is magical, and suddenly it is just the two of you, newly married, with nowhere to be and nothing to do except be completely present with each other and get lost in the romance.

The couples who do it never regret it. The ones who skip it almost always do.
Protect this part of your day. You will thank yourself for it.
