Brimstone Pictures: Built in Edmonton. Reaching Beyond.
Brimstone Pictures is turning creative ambition into a growing record of achievement. With internationally awarded films, nationwide theatrical exhibition, distribution beyond Canada, and expanding connections within the Los Angeles film community, the Edmonton-based production company is building an ever stronger presence in independent genre filmmaking.
Founded in 2020 by Preston Ewasiuk, David Heacock, and Neil Chase, Brimstone has progressed from an award-winning short to theatrically released multi-award winning features and a developing slate of new projects. Its focus remains consistent: character-driven stories that bring together the imagination, tension, and spectacle of genre cinema.
That foundation has earned recognition. Boneyard Racers collected 23 film awards worldwide, including the Edmonton International Film Festival’s Jury Award for Best Live Action Short (Alberta), and secured worldwide distribution. Brimstone’s first feature, Spin the Wheel, followed with over 20 film awards worldwide and a release across international streaming platforms. Together, these productions demonstrate the team’s ability to carry ambitious independent stories from development through production and into distribution.
Behind those achievements is a team with complementary strengths in producing, directing, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, and music. The founders bring together Preston Ewasiuk’s production and creative development experience, David Heacock’s two decades in filmmaking, and Neil Chase’s record of more than 150 international writing awards. Their collaborative approach provides the foundation for increasingly ambitious work.
That ambition extends to the muiti-award winning, theatrically released, Contamination, a science-fiction horror thriller about a black ops team sent to destroy a remote secret laboratory harbouring a deadly virus. The project expanded Brimstone’s slate into territory that combines action, suspense, and science-fiction horror, reflecting the company’s commitment to building a varied and distinctive body of genre films.
Brimstone’s growing team also includes Elizabeth Lavender and S-Raj Kumar, whose experience adds further depth to the company’s creative foundation. Elizabeth brings two decades of film and television experience in the Los Angeles and Vancouver film communities alongside her work as an acting coach, combining professional insight with a commitment to developing talent. S-Raj brings a varied screen career, training at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood, and performances in Brimstone’s Spin the Wheel and Contamination. Together, they broaden the team’s experience and perspective as the company builds its next chapter.
The latest chapter is Room 309, now in post-production, in conjunction with the Edmonton Screen Greenlight AB program. As the film takes shape, Brimstone continues to build on the experience of its earlier productions while strengthening relationships with collaborators and professional film makers at home and throughout Canada.
This November, the team will also attend the International Motor Film Awards in Los Angeles as nominees for Best Independent Film alongside major studio film releases. Held November 14 at the Petersen Automotive Museum, the event offers an in-person opportunity to connect with international filmmakers and studio industry professionals, deepen relationships, and explore future collaborations.
For Brimstone Pictures, this growth carries significance beyond the company itself. Each production brings Edmonton talent into a wider conversation about what independent filmmaking can achieve. With an established record of recognition and distribution, an expanding slate, and growing industry connections, Brimstone is earning its place among Edmonton’s rising film production companies—and building the foundation for its next stage.
