Hands up if you love flat lays and detail shots as much as I dooo! 🙋🏼‍♀️✨

People often ask me what a “flat lay” is when I mention them, so I thought I’d share a few examples!

While many photographers bring styling items to include in their detail photos, I prefer to keep these images genuine and true to you and your wedding day. The day before your wedding, I’ll have you gather any special details you’d like photographed. Then, on the big day, I’ll document them just as they are, using a nearby surface and whatever beautiful natural light I can find.

Not sure what to include? Here are a few ideas:

• Flowers
• Rings
• Shoes
• Invitation suite
• Ring box
• Jewellery
• Perfume
• Veil
• Any leftover flower clippings
• Any unique details that represent you and your day ✨

Think cowboy boots, a cross pendant, personalized wedding items, bridesmaid gifts, heirlooms, hairpieces, stickers, handwritten notes, and so much more.

No matter which details you choose, these little pieces help tell the story of your wedding day and always make for beautiful, meaningful photographs🤍

Now don’t get me wrong, I love first dances! But I especially LOVE it when people are true to themselves and who they are and for that—this idea was truly so special and beautiful:)

And fear not… the couple still had a private first dance later on, too🤍🤍

Every session,
every moment,
the light changes.
with the hour,
the season,
the setting,
and the weather;
it never seems to show up the same way twice.

And maybe that’s the point.

For all the planning & preparation, light is entirely outside of my control, outside of anyone’s control. And as unnerving as that sounds, this very fact has been something I’ve honestly been coming to truly love and embrace!

The way that light shows up and is reflected in each session & setting has felt like God’s artistic touch on each story I get to capture, shaping each one into something unique, intentional, and beautiful. It’s like it’s His way of adding His own personal touch:)

These moments captured during this special engagement session show it so well—and all it took was some dust, some trees, two beautiful souls, a moment, and some of that golden hour sunlight☀️🫶🏻
